I dont normaly post here cuz i dont have this phone. My friend does but his PC is down. His phone is locked out. Swipe pattern lock was used with wrong pattern to many times and now has locked out phone. When it turns on it just has google login. But...doesnt remember password or screen name. Was thinking a factory reset might do fix but it wont go past google sign in. Any sugustions?

I know this will seem silly, but did you try just signing in with the google credentials? Seems that would be the easy solution.

Ya i had him make a new google account but it didnt work. Store wants to charge hi 20 bucks to fix but i told him id ask for some info on here first

Did you have hime try signing in with the credentials that he originally set the phone up with? That seems to me like it would be what the phone is looking for. That way it knows it's unlocking to the person who actually owns the phone, and not to someone that stole it. I don't know for sure, but that's my best guess. Otherwise.......is it rooted? You may be able to get around it by booting into recovery instead, then doing a full wipe, and if that still didn't work, then you cold just flash a new ROM from the recovery and that would likely solve it. Again though, these are juut guesses. I've never had to deal with a locked out phone.

Thread moved to troubleshooting section. If you are trying to sign in with Google account credentials other than the ones you originally used, and your handset has not been factory reset, it will not work right.

I recommend doing a factory reset first and then trying to sign in with the new Google account credentials. That is really the only way it will work. You can factory reset your handset in HBOOT. Just turn off your Sprint HTC Hero, and press and hold the volume down button, and then press the power button until you see your screen turn on. There should be an option for clearing storage in that screen. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

Ok so i had him try the Hboot menu to do a reset it looked like it went through the process correctly but when the phone was rebooted it went back to the same sereen which is the google login

Well, he is still going to have to sign into his Google account. In this case, he should be able to sign into the new Google account since he performed the factory reset.

Android Quick Tip: How to bypass the "Touch the Android to Begin" setup - YouTube

On vanilla Android ROMs, one can touch the four corners of the Google sign in screen in a clockwise fashion to bypass it, as demonstrated in the YouTube video above. Perhaps this will work for him.

Thanks for the info guys. It turns out he hit the wrong button when doin the reset. Had him do it again and the process work.

I am very glad to hear that. Thanks for updating us on it.

Sometimes posters do not let us know if a problem was resolved. It is definitely appreciated when one does report back on their results.
