Lockscreen notifications

Hi all,
I am a new Android user and first poster (coming from Iphone 3GS, please don't flame...). So I am quite happy with this phone and the general Android experience. Obviously, being human, I couldn't help but try to find some of the functionalities I was used to under IOS.

The biggest issue I face so far is the lockscreen notifications. There are a couple issues here:

1. It seems that unless I use the slide unlock, I won't see the notifications on the lockscreen (except for the tiny symbol at the top left of the screen). Unfortunately I use pattern recognition... I'd be willing to use pin lock, but I have to secure the phone somehow, so sliding is out of the question. I cannot imagine running around with an unprotected smartphone. Is it really impossible to see notifications in the lockscreen then?

2. When I am at work my phone is on my desk in vibration mode. If I get a message, I don't necessarily feel the vibration. On IOS, the screen would light up briefly (10 or 20 seconds) and display the incoming message. I would always see that. With the Xperia T, you get a tiny blue LED in the top left. It is so tiny that I have to lift the phone to within 20cms of my eye to see if it is flashing. So I have to resort to manually checking frequently if new messages have arrived. Can someone confirm that there is indeed no way to have the phone screen light up when a new message arrives? After all, it does it when phone calls come in.

Other than that I have to say, a beautiful phone and endless functionality! Though I wish my thumb was a couple of cms longer ;)...

Hey there alpanian first off welcome to the forums!

Let me see if i can help answer your questions today :)

1. I would suggest downloading an app that gives you a customized lock screen, i know launchers can also help with this.

Widget Locker is pretty good and allows a lot of customization when it comes to notifications and such.

Otherwise you could get a new launcher like Nova Launcher which would give you a new homescreen and a new lock screen, both with lots of customization.

2. I know you can get a custom SMS app that will light up the screen. Handcent will show a pop up windows, lighting up your screen, every time you receive a text, allowing you to never miss one again :)

Hope these suggestions help, feel free to ask anymore questions you have, i would be happy to help :D

Welcome to AF! Glad you made the jump from iOS to Android :)

Not sure what your phone offers out of the box, but there are a few 3rd Party apps that could do what you're asking.

1. What sort of notifications are you talking about? For emails/SMS or any other apps? I use Widgetlocker for my lockscreen along with Tesla Unread. If I've shortcuts for Gmail, Talk, SMS on my lock screen, Tesla will display the number of notifications/emails etc in the corner of each app. See here. Alternatively, Not sure about Gmail/Talk, but the 3rd Party SMS can display a pop or notification of your message on the lockscreen too. Look at Handcent, GoSMS, Pansi SMS, see if they are to your liking.

2. Again, not sure what your options are on stock, but using an app like SMS Enhancer should let you achieve what you're looking for.

Let me know if those help, if not, I'll dig about and see what I can find.

Edit - I took ages to type, it looks as though DC got in before me. There's enough suggestions in here to hopefully put you on the right track, shout if you get stuck though. :)
