Logic board change

I have to replace the power switch on my S3 I747.

I see that I can purchase the logic boards pretty cheaply.

I use Straight Talk as my Provider

I currently have an AT&T phone, If I purchase a Verizon Logic board, will it change the Carrier and Cells towers that My phone uses essentially changing it to a Verizon Phone?

Thank you,

Steve

Yes, it will be only compatible with Verizon (or Sprint), who uses a CDMA network as opposed to AT&T or T-Mobile who use GSM networks.

Are you sure a Verizon board will fit in an AT&T case? And all the connections will line up?

I guess I assumed the phones were the same, just the components had different chips on them?

I wouldn't assume anything with Samsung. Look at all the variants for the S2 and the S3. I doubt the components are interchangeable.

I think what you might want to do is to review a couple of the teardown videos on youtube to see if the components look like they are in the same spots. Even if the cases are only a little different, the internals probably won't fit correctly.

I have found a couple of videos that claim the i535 (verizon), i747 (AT&T) and T999 (T-Mobile) can all share several of the components like the screen, digitzer and charging port assembly, so perhaps you could swap the main board. I can't guarantee it will work, though. It would be probably a good idea to ask someone who's done it. Perhaps a quick email to the poster of the video?

a Verizon board won't fit into an AT&T assembly, nor vice versa. I believe a TMobile board will fit, but that's it.

If you want to use your ATT LCD/case assembly, you are going to have to buy an ATT board.

I have, in the past, bought an ATT phone with a smashed screen, just for the board. Often, that's cheaper than buying just a board. Just confirm the IMEI is clean, and there's no water damage. Outside of that, it doesn't matter how ugly the donor phone is.

The problem is that there are different set ups of some board components. The LCD assemblies are molded plastic, with some metal. You'd have to shave off your insides to match the new bumps in the Verizon board. On some models, and I think this is the case with the Verizon/ATT question, the screws that hold the board in place are in different places also.

Unfortunately, the swapparoo is not so easy when mixing carriers.
