Lollipop 5.0 [Its out! 11/12]

D'oh, I get home and see my girlfriend's Nexus 4 (my old phone) sitting on our Tylt charger updating to Lollipop...still no love for my 5.

So I received the 5.0 OTA today on my stock Nexus 5. I read on XDA that it's good to do a factory reset before installing the OTA...so after backing up all my data, i did the FR but the OTA notification hasn't reared it's beautiful face! So is there some special way to get the notification (again) or did i pretty much lose my opportunity for the day? I would appreciate any help in regards to this matter and I thank you in advance! Ron

If you're willing to use ADB, you can pull the update from here and use ADB sideload to apply the update.

Way to think forward on things being smooth before the install. Unfortunately what happened was you were too prepared for your own good. You'll likely get the update icon again soon but next time, do the update and THEN do the factory reset. That way you're starting clean with the system in place to begin.

It looks nice, but every app is really laggy. Anyone know why that might be?

I'm also noticing a few differences with the keyboard. Not sure if I like them yet...

Answering my own question...
I checked chrome and it works fine. Looks like it might depend on if the app is optimized for lollipop. I didn't think that would be an issue since I was running art previously, but I guess that's not true. It's kind of depressing because who knows when the devs would update the apps I use, if ever.

has anyone in the UK received an OTA update?
Yes, I had mine five days ago. Funny; I'm one of those who don't mind waiting, yet I got mine early.

Don't worry. It will come in due course. There must be millions of Nexus 5's to go through, not to mention all the other Nexus devices. Based on the comments that I've read, they are more than halfway through.

It's nothing to do with location, though what it is to do with is Google's secret.

Got the OTA notification, downloading tonight!
In the uk on unbranded Nexus 5 OTA last night. All installed and working smoothly. Hopefully it will extend the battery life. OS working similar to Nexus 9 (which I am sending back due to terrible battery life) Waiting for Pre-order to go live on Nexus 6 hopefully today on Play Store.

This is a huge update though, and the FDR usually clears up OTA related issues.
Thanks for explaining. I'll consider doing it when I have a day with little else to do.

I have Settings > Backup & reset > Back up my data (on) and Automatic restore (on). If I understand correctly, this means that Google will restore my apps' data when I reinstall them after the FDR, is that right?

It *should*, but I'll admit I've never used it myself. :o

Another option is helium/carbon from koush, maker of the popular clockworkmod recovery. Root isn't needed

Sadly, no. It won't work for most non-google apps that do not save to their cloud (The google apps like music/drive etc will restore fine once you sign in)

Try Helium that Rxpert83 suggested

Thank you. I'll try it.

EDIT: I see that the Chrome browser has a Helium plug-in that should make it even easier.

How long have you been on 5.0? I had pretty poor battery life for the first few days but since then it's been improving day by day
I received the upgrade on the 10th. I have the recommended Snapdragon Battery Guru, which made a difference on 4.4, but on 5.0 I need to charge my phone at least twice daily even when I hardly use it.

Hmm, thanks. That's not such good news. I'll try Helium.

Often after a FDR I find some contacts appear that I had deleted years ago and most of my apps reload themselves so may be a good idea to make a note of all your apps before restoring just in case a few go awol.I've recently did a FDR so feel reluctant at the moment to got through it all again right now.
My battery life seems worse since the update.
In keyboard you will get a message from time to time sating you can personalise it to your tastes.Click on it and have a tinker.I hated it before I messed around with it a bit and now it seems a bit better.
My biggest bug bare at the moment is having to swipe my lockscreen just to get to the pattern unlock screen.Didn't need to do this previously and it's just wasting my time and the skin on my finger.

The battery screen seems to have less information than before, but (I'm guessing) it could be spending a week gathering information. I say that, because just today it started to show new information.

Sorry, that's a term I don't understand.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear.

If you go and look at your battery stats and click onto the graph, what does the bar for "awake" look like? is it only showing your phone is awake when you are using the phone, or are there large blocks where the phone is awake when you're not using it?
