Help Lollipop changed my text notification display?

I just updated to lollipop on my (not rooted) note 3 (Verizon). Before this update, whenever I got a text, I'd get a notification. At that point I could do a pull down from the top and see who sent the message and a preview of it.

After the update, whenever I get a text the only thing I see is that I have just gotten a new message, but nothing about the sender or the content of the message is displayed until I open the message itself. I liked the old way a lot better. Is there some way I can see the sender and message preview, without having to open the message first?

I got it working on my phone again. Open your messages app, go to settings, notifications (it just says on or off, but tap it), check preview messages, and make sure notifications are on. Then restart your phone - this turned out to be the crucial step for me, as the preview message setting was checked when I'd first updated to lollipop, and yet it wasn't showing me the preview. After I restarted the phone, it stopped showing "new message" and started showing me the preview.

Previously I could just get a new message notification showing whom it was sent from without showing the message itself. I wish that was back! I don't want people to see my phone showing who just sent me a message and actually see the message. I just want it to show who it was from and stop there.

This is the most connected/relevant thread to what I was going to post, so I'm posting in here. For those that have absolutely HATED when your phone would wake up every time a text reply comes in, the new lollipop update actually prevents that from happening now, when you block the pop-up notification. It was mentioned recently, in the Phandroid article about the S6 and S6 edge

Now, for the OP's question, there's an app that I used to use religiously to prevent the phone from waking up as well as prevent a Pop-up message, that will actually help with your being able to get messages as you used to. The app is called SMS Popup. It's in the play store, but has a lot of options, including one that only shows the sender.
