Looking at buying a 10.1 but need some opinions.

Hey guys,
Im a 4th year Mech Eng student, looking at buying one of these, it caught my eye on the demo video with the S-Pen functionality of being able to write notes into power points, the formula tool and multitasking etc, but before I buy, I want to know what do you guys think? Ive read a fair few reviews on it, all with mixed responses. I know one of the biggest cons is the plastic backing. But some reviews have expressed that the tablet wasnt as good as expected, features like the S-Pen or multitasking didnt perform as expected, so its left me a bit hesitant on buying a 10.1.

Can anyone provide some quick opinions on the tablet, and/or a few pros or cons they found with it? Also, did you buy a case for it, and what type?

I have had mine for about a week now and I am enjoying it very much. I have already used it to replace my pen and paper for note taking. Have not done much with multitasking but seemsto be good to go.

IMO, for what you'd use it for, you might do better by getting the tablet, trying it for yourself and if it doesnt meet your needs or lives up to any of the bad reviews you've read--return it.

You've pointed out specific functionality you need to work and unless these "reviewers" are using the tablet in the same fashion as you, the responses you get are going to be VERY different indeed.

My tablet uses are extremely basic and on that alone, I know in my heart I'd be doing you a disadvantage because I dont use power point or formulas.

I just saw in another thread you use your tablets for spreadsheets.
Are you still getting the Note 10.1 today? I'm actually just a little curious to know how well the pen input works with spreadsheets.

I have not played with it for a long time, but it seems to me, that the S Pen will be a much better solution than your fingers for spreadsheets. Also, I think the software used on Note is really good, a very advanced spreadsheet editing suite.

It was your post that made me think of this thread and what the OP is looking for--maybe you can help him. I dont recall reading anyone else here or other forums of anyone speaking specifically about this type of stuff.

I think that there is no tablet that will be better for spreadsheet than the Note. Why? Because of the S Pen.

Has anyone come to a conclusion on this? I'm looking at buying this tablet for similar reasons. I do a fair amount of spreadsheet programming and also review plans and spec books in .pdf format. the ability to mark up sheets and make comments using the S-Pen would be a terrific utilization of the tablet.

If you're looking to replace your laptop, not recommended. If you are already using a tablet and wanting something better for the same purpose, you will be very satisfied.

The multiscreen is epic as, being able to watch a movie or episodes while browsing is great... you can also move a mini window around as you please that pops over... the multiscreen means you can use excel and other programs with a browser or notes open... the pen is very accurate and I've done some spreadsheet work myself... Polaris is solid... and the accuracy for cell selection is far superior to your finger. The mini apps pop over too, very cool, particularly handy if you want to change a song or add something up.

Spec wise it is definitely one of the best tablets, minus the absolutely horrible camera and the low res screen... but I cant honestly tell the diff when looking at it. The advanced note taking is pretty cool Particularly the ability to recognize and interpret formulas. 2g of ram means never shutting anything and can fully load browser tabs etc.

Front facing speakers are nice too... plastic backing isn't as cheap as people say, mine feels fine and I have a history of hating Samsung build quality. The looks are okay, not good, particularly because of the wankers at apple patenting and suing everything/one.

The price is not too bad either, where I live the base is 580, and the cheapest of any brand tablet is 450ish .

If you want utility and performance, buy it. I use my laptop a heap less now, it's completely replaced it in part, and I'm claiming it on tax!

being the the commercial construction and environmental testing feilds., the note series are amazing tools for me. The s pen is great. I cannot wait to get my note 10. Picked up the note phone Friday. Its awesome.
