Looking for a android device

What I'm looking for is an android device (phone or small tablet) that I can use as a alarm clock/weather alerter (via weatherbug)/media player/etc. I was using my OG Droid but it lags quite a bit these days even after overclocking and sever different ROMS. My Droid X (which would of been great) has a damage screen so it has a slowly growing black circle right in the center. With the bootloader issues it isn't very hackable anyways.

I've looked into several devices, with the HTC EVO 4G and a Xperia phone coming in high on the list. I've looked at a few 5-7" tablets as well but I don't know how much trust I can put into most of the low end/off brand ones. I want to keep it below $100 and I'll probably get it off eBay. Since they won't ever be used as a actual phone (so WiFi only) I don't care about the network or bad ESN's or anything.

So, anyone have any idea of good devices to check in to?

Huawei devices are pretty decent and cheap. If all you need is just a dock clock they would work more than enough.

It seems like you might benefit from the original Samsung Galaxy Note, and maybe even a used Samsung Galaxy Note 2, since you could get either of those for around $100 now.

??? The Galaxy Note costs upwards of $499 around here! I think you mean the Galaxy Player? Old used iPhones make good desk clocks, I got my iPad acting as a Star Trek LCARS desk clock

The note is still way too expensive for what I need. I'll be using it for more than just a desk clock so having a little bit of omph is important.

The galaxy player looks nice but it seems there hasn't been much work done with it in regards to roms and keeping it updated.

On the Droid X, is there physical damage to the screen or did the black circle just appear? If it just appeared then the slowly growing black circle is the old DX battery swelling and pushing on the back of the screen. This happened to my old DX after 2 years and a new battery fixed the issue.

I use an old HTC Flyer for this purpose and it's great!
Not sure what used ones are going for, but it can't be much. Also, even an old Nook Color (needs to be rooted) could do this if you're looking for something larger.
