Looking for a better keyboard

Hey all:

I have the Droid 3, which I love. I never thought that I'd mostly use the on screen keyboard, but I like it.

However, I am looking for the biggest keyboard with the symbols on the main keys, so if I press a key long enough (1-2 seconds,) a symbol will come up instead of me having to press the main "symbol" button. I'd like to have the comma where the microphone is.

Thanks!

Jeremy

Try smart keyboard. There are several ways to customize the keyboard and you can adjust the key size to an extent with a slider bar also. There is a free version.

I have tried quite a few keyboards because, like you, I like the pop-up alternate stuff. I have tried a few like Smart Keyboard, Thumb Keyboard and a few others. I just recently read a thread about A. I. Keyboard and thought I would give it a shot. I am most impressed. One thing it allows, is re-sizing of the keyboard while in use. There is a button in the corner that you can drag to make it bigger or smaller. Outside of that it does everything that I want to see in a keyboard (and them some.) I have only been using it for a few days so my opinion could change, but for the moment I think it is wonderful. It is free, without ads. There is a pay version and if I find that I like it, I will add it to my collection of paid keyboards. One thing that it does is allow you to choose what you want to see when you long-press a key. It also has several skins. In fact, there was so much stuff in the settings, I gave up and decided to come back to them later. Give it a shot.

I would give SwiftKey a look. If you want to try before you buy, download the swiftkey Flow beta from their website. It is free right now. If you don't like swiping and prefer tapping, you can disable flow. You can also set keyboard height in both portrait and landscape modes and adjust the long press durations in settings. And it has your specific request regarding the microphone.

Similar to Swiftkey is Swype. Only available in beta from their website.

How's word prediction on the Kii compared to Swiftkey? I'm having a hard time believing there is any better keyboard than the swiftkey...

There were times with Swiftkey when the "correct" predicted word was there, and i would hit spacebar to use it and i would still get the misspelled word that i had in there. It bugged the crap out of me...it wasnt common but it happened enough.

I understand it might be hard to believe, but i fell in love with Kii almost instantly...it just feels better to me.

Well, I for one love Swiftkey. Like most predictive keyboards, it works well if you work with it. That being said, I sort of miss Swype (which was my keyboard of preference before), but I haven't used Swiftkey Flow (beta). Does anyone know if Swiftkey plans on making Flow/4.0 a separate product with a separate pricing structure? Will Swiftkey "regular" users be charged to upgrade to Flow or will it be a cost-free upgrade? Anyone know?

Downloaded Kii after reading the recommendations here and very impressed so far. There's a good range of settings/options to get it working the way you want.

No TouchPal fans? It has been my favorite for quite a while. Love the Swype and good word prediction. Also like seeing up for numbers and down for punctuation

My fave anyway.

It just updated to include flow in the play store. Free update for existing users.

EDIT: wow I really wasn't paying attention. Clementine already answered your question.

Kii is just so cool, total user conifiguration, and on top of that it works!

1st is "Steampunk", 2nd is "Storm", both at Playstore. I did a custom black background that added "Kii" and "Nexus7".

The last update finally fixed Kii's problem on activating gesture typing on my phone. Switched to it from Swype and so far its been awesome! The only issue I have as of now is that it only shows 3 suggestions instead of Swype's 5. Still looking around in the settings to see if it can be adjusted.
