Looking for a budget tablet

Hi guys. I'm new to the tablet world, and I would like one that is $250 or less. I will mostly be using it for watching movies and TV shows, as well as writing papers, reading textbooks, the occasional game etc.

One of my main concerns is size. In my price range, it seems like 7'' and 8'' tablets are the only ones I can really get. However, I am afraid movies won't look any good like that. I wanted a 10'' tablet, but I am not finding many good ones in my price range. What do you guys think? Does anyone have any 10'' suggestions?

In no particular order, here are two tablets I've had my eye on. Please tell me what you think of them and feel free to suggest others!!

1. ASUS Memo Pad 8 - $230
PROS
- microSD card slot for expandable memory
- larger of the two - 8''

CONS
- cheaper build quality
- lower screen res - 1280x800 IPS LCD
- slightly less RAM - 1GB

NEUTRAL
- 1.6GHz quad core processor (unknown type)
- not sure of GPU, but it appears capable
- 16GB internal storage

2. Google Nexus 7 - $224 for 16 GB
PROS
- terrific screen - 1920x1200 IPS LCD
- more RAM - 2GB

CONS
- No microSD card slot for expansion!! This is a humongous concern of mine. Does anyone else have any opinions on this?
- slightly smaller - 7''
- 16GB internal storage only (I don't want to spend more than $250 for the 32GB of space)

NEUTRAL
- Qualcomm Snapdragon S4Pro 1.5GHz quad core processor
- Adreno 320 GPU

Thanks!!
