Looking for a Media Player App With Decent Shuffle

reom_76

Newbie
I'm trying to find a good music player app that has a decent shuffle function. I pretty much only listen to music on shuffle and I can't find an app that offers shuffle that doesn't repeat. I have used the basic media player, Double Twist, Rockplayer, and Cubed, but all seem to repeat songs on shuffle fairly often. Ideally, I'd like to find one that shuffles through all songs before repeating, similar to how an ipod does it. I'm using a Samsung Captivate, if that matters. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

PS, I know there was a thread that addressed this via search, but no suggestions were given other than cubed. If someone knows a setting on cubed that will allow this to work, please let me know.

I also just use my music player on shuffle (random ALL songs) and Poweramp manages not to repeat within my memory span. I thought it had messed up the other day but realised that what I thought had been the same track (as 5 minutes before) was in fact the live version whereas the first had been the album version (totally different albums).

PowerAMPs shuffle isn't very good, it may not repeat, but it tends to select certain songs with quite a high frequency from session to session. For example, if I shuffle my entire collection, around 6000 songs, there are certain tracks for each artist that come up every time I shuffle all the songs. Its quite annoying, but I've not found an Android media player that doesn't exhibit this behaviour.

I've given up on PowerAmp (and stock, the only other I've used) for good shuffling. NZtechfreak is right, it's just not all that good. Love the app, hate the lack of shuffle.
I am now going through songs alphabetically, at least I will get to hear them all instead of the same 100 (out of 900+) or so over and over and over...

I notice no-one's posted on this thread for a while. Is there really no android music player who's shuffle works effectively? still? I got bored of the music player that came with my Galaxy and installed WinAmp, but it's just as bad.

I blame the government, personally....

That sounds good! Do I have to get the full version (bearing in mind my needs are fairly basic) or would the free version suffice?

Well, as advised, I installed Poweramp. It's just as bad! And has some irritating bits of bad design compared to Samsung's native player.

Boo.

Have you tried PlayerPro? I've never used the shuffle option but IIRC I saw a thread somewhere where it has the kind of logic you are looking for. The free version has everything as the paid version except for the equalizer (which also comes with cross/fade functionality).

Hi everyone :) Long time lurker, I finally signed up.

I wanted to suggest Ubermusic as a great player. They boast that their shuffle doesn't repeat songs. I think I may try this for my phone as well.

All of the PowerAmp basic shuffle settings which give you an infinite amount of randomized choices when combined with the List function [where you can put groups of randomly sorted or sorted Albums or anything else you can think of like mixed genres], Folders [Where you can put your Albums, mixed genres, separate genres, other Lists, Playlists etc], all of which combine to all be randomly shuffled with these Shuffle options to provide whatever choice you could ever have imagined.

PowerAmp has never ever played the same song twice for me, and will only put extreme bias on Rating if you make a List sorted by Rating and turn the Shuffle off.

You can put your Album in a List then shuffle it, put a group of Albums in another List or add to the previous one then shuffle it, or then combine it with other Lists maybe with separate Genres in them with Shuffle.

Shuffling is just the beginning of what PowerAmp can do

Typed out using SwiftKey, only available for Android ツ :thrasher:

Installed power amp demo. Looks very promising as
Let's you shuffle in a selected folder. Cool :)
