Looking for a tablet around $250

MacFett

I am looking to get a tablet, I had been thinking about the Kindle Fire but have been turned off by the lack of storage space. I more recently been looking at the Nook Tablet 16gb, between the double storage and the inclusion of an SD slot this is the current fore runner for me.

But I'm sure there are other options out there. I don't have a huge list of demands, I would like it to be able to play Plants Vs Zombies and World of Goo. Streaming netflix would be great too anything beyond that is going to just be a plus.

Screen size doesn't have to be huge, I'm coming from a 3.2" Optimus V. 7" or so would be fine.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

PM me. I'll sell you a rooted 7" OG Sprint Galaxy Tab for $200ish plus shipping. It's got 16 GB on board and a micro-SD slot that'll take a 32 GB card. If you're interested in buying used. I don't know that you're going to get much in that price range without going used unless you want something like the Nook Color or the Kindle Fire. Then you'll get a more locked down experience though.

I've played Plants v Zombies on it and it works fine for that. Never played World of Goo though.

If you could extend your price range about $50-75 it would open up a lot more possibilities from higher end tablets.

I actually got my Acer Iconia A500 new for $189, but I don't see that sale happening again... But it will be getting ICS next month, which if the optimization of the OS holds up for it (which it should as its barely skinned at all), it will get a new lease on life... If you are willing to consider a refurb, would be a great option. It has full size USB, plus a microSD slot, so storage is never going to be an issue.

It also has an HDMI out slot correct? To me that's a great feature for dumping video onto the tablet and then connecting to a TV. As it stands now, my HTC requires an adapter to connect an HDMI cable to, which is kind of a PITA.

Thanks for the link on the Iconia. Looking into that one.

I don't have HDMI on my TV (I'm still living in a SD world) but hope to soon.

Yep, HDMI out (mini though).

I have a 16GB Nook Tablet (not Nook Color, Nook Tablet), and once I rooted it and got all the Google Apps on it, it pretty much replaced my laptop. Just checked Google Play,a nd PvZ and World of Goo are both available to download on it. Haven't played either, but all the other games I have on it run smoot and nice. Really recommend the Nook Tablet and rooting it, frees it up to do a lot. Like I have the Play and Amazon stores both available to me on it, works just like my Droid X, just with a bigger screen, lol! And the root I used keeps all the Nook stuff on there, so I still have the reader and normal access to the Nook Store just like a stock NTab would.

Sadly there didn't seem to be any at that amazing price.

I figured it was a decent price. I came close to buying one myself, but I have an HTC EVO View 4G and it serves its purpose. From what I read, some people resell them on Ebay for $225.

Posting this from my rooted Nook Tablet. Have I mentioned that I love this thing? Only issue I have is that I have to use the stock keyboard, even rooted I can't use any other keyboard I've tried installing. But that's not a dealbreaker for me, I can actually thumb type holding it in portrait mode pretty easily, I don't have very big hands.

Right now I'm going back and forth between the nook tablet, the Lenovo A1 and the Acer A500 posted earlier in the thread.

The nook is where I am leaning just because of dev support the other two don't see to have (at least on this forum).

Hrethgir, I found this on a review of the Nook Tablet on eBay.
The BAD: Very slow connectivity, even in my hotsy-totsy wireless environment; Klutzy interface... there is really no notion of "Go back"... it's been replaced by "Start over from scratch". Much of the time, you can't go back to a prior screen.
Is the back on the Nook any different than other Android devices?

Stock, that's just about right. But rooted, there is a bar along the bottom that has a back button that works just like on a regular phone. It's a software button on the screen, like ICS has, but it works just like the hardware button on my Droid X. The root build also has a software Menu button, so that gives you 2 software buttons, Back and Menu, and then the hardware "n" button that is the Home button.

Here's a video from YouTube showing you what it looks like. Rooting it wasn't too bad, although a little frustrating, but totally worth the time! This was the first Android anything I've rooted, by the way.

Have you thought about the HP Touchpad? Easy to install Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich on it and make it a dual boot tablet, so you can use either WebOS or Android. I have one and it works great. Considering Android is an alpha build it is amazingly stable. Only things Cyanogen mods don't have working yet is the camera and mic. If needed, just boot into WebOS.

Looks like they go for between $150 and $200 on ebay.

iPad 1 actually is a decent option. Don't know what they're going for. For my two "low end" tablets, the Nook Color is a good option. Better so is the HTC Flyer. Though it's processor is nothing special, it's very smooth and Sense on a tablet is nice. Only problems I've heard about the Acer tablets is horrible battery life. For me, the most important thing on a tab is WEIGHT! Make sure to pick it up and anticipate having to hold it for some time. My Prime is thinner than our old Tab 10.1, but it's a hair heavier and it's certainly noticeable.
