Apps Looking for Advise as to where a Newbie should begin learning Development?

I'm a network admin and looking to branch out into Android Development. I'm not much of a programmer, limited to some PowerShell, and VBS.

Any advise as to the best route to go about learning Android Development?

I would suggest a Java book or reference first. Then I had liked the "Beginning Android X" books for Android development. I'm a fan of books though.

once you get the basics, check out the source from the 'sample code' section there.
