Looking for an SMS chat messenger with these functions

1) ability to turn on audible notifications that will play even when you are in the conversation threaded view. On my phone, the stock app and Textra both will not "beep" for a new text if I am in the conversation threaded view. Thus i'm forced to back out of the convo or lock my screen just so I can get the beep to let me know if I have received a new text. I want a app that always beeps no matter what screen I am in.

2) can hide the message content when the message is received and instead just show me the contact name and number or etc. Just don't want the message itself to show on the screen until i click on it. Textra has this option, but it does not have option 1.

I know for sure ChompSMS has both of those, Handcent most likely has both though I'm not sure about that 100%. Either way give those a try, they both have a lot more customization options as well.

Oh, I didn't know that. I just re-downloaded it and I tried chompsms and I cannot get it to beep in conversation/threaded view. Can you explain to me how you did that? I will tell you what my settings are on:

notifications: checked
ringtone: beep once
repeat notification: off
during phone call: play ringtone + vibrate
during music: play ringtone + vibrate
in app ringtone: same as ringtone (beep once)
screen comes on: checked
show ticker: off
sent sound: none


what is weird is, when I first downloaded the app, I opened a thread and typed in my own number and sent myself a message in threaded view. It beeped! I was excited. I then exited the app. Turned off the phone. Turned the phone back on. Went back to that same thread with myself. Sent another message in threaded view, and no noise :((( just a vibration like the stock messenger does.

Thanks for the reply. i want it to beep when I RECEIVE a text... (while in the threaded conversation view). It beeps at all other times on my phone, but not in conversation/threaded view. On the other hand, I found "evolveSMS" will always beep, even in threaded view. However, you cannot turn that beep off in threaded view. No custom control of sound for the threaded view like there is on the iphone or my old nokia n8. I'll keep searching for an answer
