Looking for power saver app that can do 2 things

Hi,

Recently I've discovered that my Xperia X8 stock battery, after one year of use, no longer works as it used to work. Obviously one year of charge-discharge has taken a toll on its maximum capacity.

My usual routine in using the smartphone was to constantly keep 3G running, at times I would play a game or two, surf the internet here and there, and of course use it for calls and texting. All in all, I used it moderately, but the time came when my battery with this moderate use could withstand a maximum of 24 hours. Naturally this looks like a great deal for most smartphone users, but if I were to abuse it with an occasional video download, play games and surf the internet some more, 16 hours would pass and I would have to recharge.

Before I go on with the main subject, these are the things I did so far to conserve the battery and maximize its capacity (perhaps this would be of help to someone with the same problem):

1. I installed Advanced task killer, and set its auto kill to crazy each half an hour.

2. I installed the Power control widget, which allows quick shifts between 2G and 3G whenever necessary, as I've noticed that constantly keeping 3G active takes a good chunk of battery power.

3. I performed a hardware calibration of the battery (shutting the phone off, charging, removing the charger when battery reaches 100 %, activating the phone, and then repeating the process three times), and I also used the Battery calibration software just to be on the safe side.

All of this increased the battery length to about 60 hours. However, I would like to increase this treshold even more. I'm looking for an app that could do these two things:

1. Keeping the 3G off until I use some of the applications of my choice, which would currently be the Opera web browser and the local stock market app. I need 3G only when I'm using these two apps and don't need it at any other time. So, it would be great if the app had a programmable list of apps that trigger the activation of 3G, and then turn it off when I'm finished with using the app from the list.

2. I don't use the phone during night time. It would be great if the app could turn the airplane mode on at a specific time and switch back to normal use somewhere in the morning.

I already tried to find an app that would fit the description, but most either can't do what I would want them to do, and some are simply too intrusive with the phone settings, making my battery go out even quicker. So, if anyone has any experience with this kind of app, I would be very grateful :)

Doesn't matter if the app is free or premium - I have no problems with giving away a dollar or two for something that works.

Thank you, and I apologize if the message size is a bit longer than usual.

If you use the phone it will use the battery! Saying that, Timeriffic ... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alfray.timeriffic&hl=en ... can be set to turn on airplane mode at night (though you could always turn it off ... but then I use the alarm as well).

As for the 3G, if you've no set time to use it I'd put some form of widget on the home screen that turns on/off 3G. Much easier.

I just tried Timeriffic, and it's perfect - exactly what I was looking for for the airplane mode during night time. I also use the alarm clock at times on the cell so I wouldn't quite want to turn the phone entirely off.

As for the 3G, that's exactly why I installed Power control widget. Among other things, it allows you to turn 3G on/off. For battery consumption, that's good enough. However, I would prefer the process to become automated if possible.

Thanks for the Timeriffic recommendation, it was exactly what I was looking for.

Get rid of the task killer, it's actually wasting power. In fact, you should NEVER use any task killer or memory optimizer. Android is excellent at handling processes and memory with no help from 3rd-party apps or user assistance. Just let Android do it's job, relax and enjoy your phone.

This is an interesting article. I never really thought of the concept that Android can handle itself well enough. I just went with the hype. Most people used a task killer so that's why I installed it.

I will try how it works without it. Thanks.

Most alarm apps (even stock) have an option to sound even when the phone is in 'silent' mode. I put mine on silent, together with airplane mode, as I sometimes get calendar 'reminders' at midnight (if I make a booboo with a calendar entry mainly ... doh!!!). On 'silent' I only get the alarm.
