Looking For VPN App That Does Not Require Device Security

Are there any Android VPN apps which do not require you to lock or a password on your phone? I'm trying to setup up a PPTP connection (yes, I know - it's slow and not the most secure) using the built in VPN client (under Wireless & networks), but it is telling me I need some type of security on my phone. The only app that I found previously required your phone to be rooted, and because I'm on the Verizon Google Pixel XL, I'm unable to root my phone.

I use Adguard pro from the play store, is VPN with no lock required
 
It's both. You control what to block. It's not a client.
 
After doing some reading on Adguard, I decided to purchase an older tablet that can easily be rooted and then I can PPTP VPN without locking, can install Adaway, etc.
