Hi all,
WARNING: I know nothing of the Android platform & am telling you this upfront to save the thread from any 'NOOB' comments some of you may feel the need to post.
I am in the market for a new phone and am considering the D2 from VZW. I have been using WM phones for years (6700, 6800 & TP2 currently, love HTC gear), and am not too impressed with WP7. Due to my business, I have quite a few requirements for my phone & am wondering if the D2 (and/or apps) will meet them. Any information/direction you all could share would be greatly appreciated.
1. After much searching I was able to determine that the D2 does have a native PPTP client - that is one issue already resolved.
2. Remote Desktop client - Is there a native RDP client? If not, is there a free ($ or FOSS) client available? Commercial? And from your experience, which is best? I rarely use it but do need it from time to time for my clients.
3. Due to using texting as a means to communicate with my clients, I like to be able to archive my messages off of the device (CYA). In the WM world we have PPCPIMBackup that allows me to export my messages to a CSV file. Is there anything similar for the Android platform? Free? Commercial?
4. SSH client or shell access on the D2? I use PocketPUTTY on my TP2 to manage my *NIX boxes and would need similar functionality on a D2.
5. VNC client? Or Java support in browser? Again, free, commercial, experience?
6. Ability to record in call? (crazy ex & yes I have a court order allowing it)
It appears that there is a very good ROM community as well, which I am not opposed to (I flashed my TP2 the day I took it out of the box) if that is what must be done to meet my needs. Any comments regarding any of the ROMs available would be taken into consideration also.
I am quite certain I am forgetting something & will probably remember .5 seconds after hitting the Submit button. Oh well, this is a good start. Thanks in advance for the information and help.
