Help Looking to upgrade from my S3....suggestions?

I can either go with AT&T or Verizon, so carrier isn't that big of a deal. I like the S3 form factor, so things like the Note 4 and Nexus 6 are just too big for my tastes.

I'm also looking for one that is completely moddable. Currently, my S3 has 4.4 loaded on it which means I can't load any ROM's on it...@$###$ Samsung.

So...any suggestions? (PS I can't get a Oneplus One)
 
OnePlus One would probably be a bit big for you anyway tbh it's huge!
How about an HTC One (m8 ), a. Sony z3 or even a nexus 5?
 
I was considering a Nexus 5...but was worried that Android OS support for it would lag, especially behind the 6. How long do you think the Nexus 5 has before it loses its "luster" ?
 
I'd give it a few years tbh. Probably at least as long as a manufacturer phone that's new now and once it loses official support there will be plenty 3rd party support
 
Ugh, just realized I can't get a Nexus 5 with 2-year contract...

I checked out the Nexus 6 in person too. Ugh. No way. It's a @$#%ing monster.

The Moto X is intriguing. It looks to be the same size as the S3, which is nice.

Is it extremely customizable? Or does Verizon/Motorola have it locked down?
