Lookout Mobile Security keeps sending me text messages after Uninstall!

I installed and tested out Lookout yesterday. Lookout is a free antivirus app with a backup and phone locator function. It would not connect or locate my phone unless I had the phone turned on and I manually clicked on Lookout on the phone. So I uninstalled Lookout from the phone.

This morning I was awakened by numerous text messages from Lookout.

The text messages all said: "Lookout is sending this message to initiate an automatic connection. No action is required. FLX9DU725."

I logged on to the myLookout.com website and changed my phone number to an inactive 555 telephone number and then closed my Lookout account.

The text messages kept coming. I received 18 messages in about 40 minutes. It was very annoying. I was also very concerned because I only get 250 free messages and then I get charged for every message after that.

I sent an email to Lookout.

I called my service provider Telus. They could not do anything to stop a third party from contacting me. The telephone number of the sender kept changing with only a few repeats.

After about 40 minutes, the texts have stopped for now... keeping my fingers crossed.

Anybody else have this problem?

Lookout is overpriced anyway, Seekdroid does the same shit for $.99

oh and as to your problem I have no idea, just though i'd give you an idea for an app similar to lookout.

I'm not sure if by "on" you mean the screen being on or the device being powered on, but no such app will be able to locate your phone if it's powered off.

Lookout is free for its antivirus, backups, and remote locator functions. The monthly charge is for remote wipe and lock, which I agree is too expensive.

The av is worthless, back up? For non rooted phones?
The monthly charge for remote wipe and lock is silly as that is all Droidseek does for 99 cents.

For me, Lookout would not do the locate from a PC unless I turned on Lookout on the phone (ie. Screen on with the Lookout app on the screen). So I uninstalled it.

I just got a reply from Lookout regarding the unwanted text messages. They believe somebody got into my web account and activated the phone locate after I uninstalled it off of my phone. Lookout kept sending texts to my phone to try and connect which it could no longer do because of uninstall. They said it was a good thing that I went to their website to close the account or else Lookout would have kept sending me a text message every 2 to 5 minutes

Yea lookout has issues locating outside of the US, something about their international sms carrier.

Their contact backup system didn't do anything that gmail wasn't already doing better, and we won't get into a debate on the dubious merits of android anti virus software.

This is still a problem. I received the "Lookout is sending this message to initiate an automatic connection. No action is required." message this morning at 4:30 DST. I have received numerous other messages since I uninstalled (the paid version) of Lookout.

I recieved the text below today at
1:23 A.M. I'm worried it's some hacker... what can I do?
