Help Lookout says Android Services is malware

okmike87

Newbie
Lookout keeps telling me Android Services is adware. I tell Lookout to uninstall it but I get a message that the uninstall was unsuccessful. I even totally erased my phone (and sd card) and started over as a new phone. As soon as I installed Lookout, it told me again that Android Services is adware. Any ideas?

I read somewhere about some malware that roots your device (without you knowing) and then installs itself into the system partition, making it where even a factory reset won't get rid of it. Could it be something like this?

Go to settings>>apps>>Hangouts>>Tap on it>>clear cache/data?uninstall any updates if it has any>>Uncheck notifications>>Disable>>and then force stop.
Hangouts shouldn't bother you again.

Hangouts isn't giving me any trouble.

Considering we don't know op's habits, and bluestudio is somewhat unknown, and that two different apps are saying the same thing, I don't know that we can necessarily conclude this is a false alarm. Could also maybe be that you have a malicious or spyware app which has named itself android services.

I'm not saying one way or the other, just suggesting to keep an open mind. If it were me I'd investigate further. Not sure how...I might try lookout support or do some googling

If the stock firmware and a way to flash it was available that would be my suggestion. Not a lot of information available. Never had one so wouldn't know where to tell you to look. Found a few threads on XDA on how to root and install TWRP but not much on current stock firmware.

It certainly could. Do you have an app listed in settings>applications called "Android Services"? I just checked on my Nexus 6 running 6.0.1 and my Note 10.1 running 5.1.1 and don't see anything called "Android Services". I have "Android System", Google Play Services" and "Google Services Framework" but that's as close as I could find.

I'd say you've got some nastiness going on there trying to pass itself off as an Android System app.

You'll either have to root to remove it or flash stock firmware, i'm afraid. :(

Yep. There is an app called Android Services. It doesn't give me the option to uninstall it but it does have the option to disable. I wonder if I should do that.

Disabling shouldn't hurt, because you should have the option to enable it again if disabling it causes problems. I was under the impression critical system apps couldn't be disabled, so that tells me this is something that you can do without.

Did anyone every determine the cause of this? I have two Blu Studio C's and both started reporting the same thing. I've used McAfee and Lookout.

I haven't heard back from Blu. I need to call and follow up. For the time being, I disabled Android Services.

I'd be curious about what they say. I got the following from McAfee 2nd level support -

Package com.android.syscore is a Trojan that run root commands. It's detected as Android/Andup.A properly and if it's already installed MMS can't remove it because now it's in system directory.

Did disabling the Android service app help? If you're rooted, what method did you use? If you are, unroot and re root with kingo root. Download root app delete and Use it to remove the Android service app, if you think it may have been embedded into system partition by the root method you used. maybe that'll solve your issue?

I spent way too much time on this. It appears to be part of Blu system build, which in my case cannot be removed. I can't root the phone as I run apps that perform integrity checks. I wonder how many consumers are buying this phone with no idea what root is. I purchased a new phone.

That's what Blu told me; that it is part of the system build. That doesn't make me feel much better though, I'm afraid it still could be something dangerous.

I'm not rooted. If I knew of a method to root this phone (Blu Studio C D830U) I would root and attempt to remove it. But I can't seem to find a root method for this particular phone.
