Looks like July for Galaxy S II and VZW

As much as I can wish, I will not believe the Samsung Galaxy S II is hitting VZW until I see more evidence than some blogs-Need a good VZW source... If there was a CDMA version already out there, then I would buy into it. I think August or September will be the earliest we will see this phone, if the Bionic is inbound, VZW will hedge its bet and not allow a phone to compete with it, IMO.

Battery life of GSM/HSPA+ version of SGSII seems to be on par with original Galaxy S if not better. So if it comes with LTE for verizon, there is no reason it would be much worse than Charge.

Yeah I wish they would just announce it even if its not coming until aug or september. I dont know what the big deal of keeping everything hush hush. I mean you don't even have to reveal all the specs just announce when it will be released.

Verizon won't do that because they know it will kill sales of a lot of phones that are on store display now.

jinwons nailed it... VZW knows this phone (SGSII-Code Name Function) will blow all of the other phones off the shelf... Get people locked in 4G/LTE for two years with OKAY phones, then unleash tiered plans, use the GREAT phone to lure people in who will pay money to get more data on GREAT phone. Or better yet, get the true tech junkies (US) to pay FULL PRICE for the Great Phone and keep our Unlimited plan in place. Kind of crappy way to do business, but if you want a stable network in USA, VZW has the market covered (Except in the DFW area, IMO, I lived there for 2 years, it seemed that AT&T had better coverage). Musings of a madman here...

Certainly it would deep-six sales of the Droid Charge. This was my argument against a summer release, in general. With the recent release of the Droid Charge on Verizon and the Infuse 4G on AT&T, I can't see either carrier immediately pushing out a Galaxy S2 variant so soon.

imo, i think it will be at the earliest Q4 2011, its originally the phone i really wanted, but went with the charge because they have the same screen, just different processor, camera, ram, and body. and 3 of those will suck even more battery than my charge. im extremely happy with my decision to go with the charge. I wouldn't trade it in even if S2 came out.

Why would three of those suck even more battery? Exynos processor will consume less battery than Hummingbird from last year due to its more efficient Cortex A9 architecture. I don't get why its camera will suck more power either. You just seem to be trying to justify your Charge purchase by assuming those without any basis. SGSII will handily blow off Charge in UI, graphic performance.

It will surely come within Q3 this year. AT&T, Sprint variants (Attain, Within) are almost ready at this point, and Verizon Function might be too as accessories are already being made for its body. I think the July release leak to Computerworld last week was real and Verizon quickly took it back to avoid any negative impact on current phone sales. Late July is probably a bit optimistic but I think August release is most likely. Other carriers might get it by late July.

Err........why are we even dicussing this phone on the Charge forum ?

In 4 months, the Galaxy will be out-dated !

Very happy with the Charge, could care less if Verizon comes out with a Quad-core, 1080p, 500GB, Blu-ray burning phone next week !

To be honest, the Galaxy looks like a hundred other phones out there...........the Charge does not !
Here's a link for Ya' !

rdalev, hear - hear... Enjoy the 4G/LTE goodness of the Droid Charge, Enjoy the Battery life (After 16 hours I still had 42%), enjoy the Super AMOLED Plus Screen, Enjoy the Light weight, Enjoy the Low SAR Scores (Less Radiation), Enjoy the Bluetooth Stereo, Enjoy the Super 8MP Camera, Enjoy Samsung's Bravado- Apple is really mad that this phone exists... Funny when the Iphone probably has a ton of Samsung Guts at least the Video Processor. The DROID CHARGE ROCKS, ENJOY THIS BEAST OF A PHONE...

I agree that SGSII shouldn't be discussed or compared to Charge here. Once it's released, no one will be interested in Charge.

Hey folks! Original Droid owner here who is considering what to do when his upgrade is available end of July. Sounds like I'll be in a sweet spot by then from what I'm reading as far as choices of phones go. I've been looking at both the Charge and the Galaxy SII. Now from what I've seen, the GSII has 1gig rom. Haven't seen what the Charge has. Is it the same? I'm 50m east of Chicago and don't have access to 4g presently. It will more than likely hit in the next couple years so to me it's kinda irrelevant if it has 4g or not presently. I'll probably be looking for a new phone by then anyway. I was also considering the Bionic but it sounds like it'll have a locked bootloader so no custom Rom'ing with it. I enjoyed the Droid alot mainly due to its huge following and huge Rom development community. Now with soo many phones on the market, it's like trying to hit a moving bullseye as to which phone will be THE phone with the most development attention. Maybe those days are gone and it'll be a piecemeal deal hereout, don't know. I DO know I'm tiring very quickly of the Droids limitations on memory (256m internal) and its slower speed and smallish screen. So I'm looking forward to whatever comes down the pike. I'm sure I'd be happy with a Charge or a SGII. The good thing about the SGII is it already has a sizeable community with its overseas earlier launch so it's not like buying a totally new phone with no history to it. Sorry bout the rambling but that's how I'm thinking now..what do to,what to do....hashing and REhashing everything so I get the one I'm gonna like and stick with the first time out!

I don't have anything against Charge users. Anyway both is Samsung phone! But trash talking SGSII to just feel good about owning Charge or defend it looks just plain silly to me. It's the phone that is almost universally winning minds of IT reviewers, which very rarely happens for any phone not from Apple. I wish Charge users well with it and hope it receives GB update soon. But I don't want to be with phone of last year's processor and small RAM for next two years.

By the the time you can upgrade your phone, SGSII will be out very likely. Also Moto will probably have both D3 and Bionic by then.
Did you mean 1Gb RAM in SGSII? It has 1Gb RAM and 16Gb ROM (internal memory). Charge has 512 RAM and 2Gb internal memory. Charge is not bad choice for now, but the hardware spec (processor, memory, storage) on SGSII is in another league for good future proof and it's on Gingerbread 2.3.3 already.

I like my charge and we are just stating the obvious with the S2. And BTW, it will be Q4 at the earliest.
