Losing Root Access

I have an Incredible that has been rooted and running Cyanogen Mod 7.1 (and earlier versions) for about two years now.

Suddenly some apps claim that Root Access is not available. (Superuser thinks otherwise and lists a couple of apps that do have permission including Titanium Backup).

Titanium's "Fix Permissions" function is among those telling me that Root is not available (as does Barnacle Tether -- which also worked fine before).

Do I re-root? If so how? Restore to factory and start over or what?

No, you shouldn't need to re-root. Clear SuperUser's data. Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All tab > SuperUser > clear data. You may have to reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache, too. That's how I've fixed it when weirdness like that has happened to me.

By any chance, do you have SU set to "Allow" Automatic response? Some apps need it set to "Prompt" the first time it asks for permission.

thanks for that help.
I cleared the Davlik cache and the cache of the acting-up apps.

Rom Manager is still listed as "allow" in Superuser" but I still get "An error occured while attempting to run privileged commands" in Rom Manager. And a similar "no root" error with Barnacle.

Do I need to clear the cache at a system level? (If so, how?)

I cleared the Davlik and partition cache, as well as the cache of the problematic apps. I still get the "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands." in Rom Manager and Barnacle still claims I'm unrooted.

<sigh>

It's been awhile since anyone responded to this, but I think the problem may lie with USB Debugging! I found on my Galaxy Exhilarate, that if USB Debugging IS NOT enabled, I loose root! Go to "Settings/Applications/Development" and check the box for USB Debugging.

Hopefully, this will fix the problem of losing root!
