Help Loss of Audio

I use my Droid for music in the car, using the native "My Music" app. Sometimes after I unplug it at the end of the trip, I can't get audio from media to play, either from the onboard speaker or the output jack. My guess is that the music player app is not releasing control of the audio hardware when it shuts down. I used to have that problem occasionally with PCs.

I'm not certain the combination of events that causes this to happen, but I think it has something to do with the way I shut down the music player and the order in which I shut down the app and unplug the audio cable from the headphone jack.

The only way I've found to get audio back is to reboot the phone.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Anyone know how to get audio back, short of rebooting?

Anyone know how to avoid the situation in the first place?

Thanks,
-Scott

I have had it happen before, at random times.
I have tried killing apps and clearing data and nothing worked.
A reboot was the only way to get things back to normal.

Just the other day I had the flash come on and stay on at random.
Again, I tried killing apps and nothing helped except a reboot.

I have seen this problem once or twice. Because it has happened so infrequently and the sound is fine, my personal opinion is that it's similar to what happens on occasion to a computer; you get a driver messed up with some program and have to reboot.

Keep in mind these are essentially computers that make phone calls and as such issues like what we are used to seeing on our PC's may well become issues we have with our phones as well.

Agreed, and that's why I made the comparison to PCs myself. Still, it's enough of a PITA for me I was hoping someone may have discovered a solution short of reboot (e.g., "restart the player, then kill it") or suggestions for avoiding it (e.g., "don't pull the plug when the player is in pause").

I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately, the more complicated we make our devices, the bigger pains we end up with.

I have that happen occasionally too....

I've found that plugging a headphone jack in for a second, then uplugging will usually bring back the sound.

I have this happen too. I go into settings-sounds, turn everything off and back on, and it is fine after that. Until the next time it does it:)

I've had this issue at sporadic moments. Never seem to find a way to replicate it, but it started with ICS. Not a huge issue, but is perplexing.

Putting my phone in sleep mode and waking it seems to be a remedy.

Thanks folks. I'll try these next time. :)

turn off your streaming music app, back out to your launcher screen, and toggle your ringer volume, once it gives the indicator beep your volume will be back. not sure why it loses it but causing a system-generated sound seems to bring it back.

Since I last posted, I experienced the problem once. I got sound back by going into and out of sleep mode.
