Root Lost all hope.... i think my phone is bricked... help

Hey guys,

So I've been playing a lot with the Sharp ROM, U9000 and CM 9 and I am very familiar with the rooting process. I was also screwing around with the build.prop to lower my DPI.

A lot of apps became clunky and I decided to do a fresh install of the U9000 rom especially because I just got a new class 10 32gb micro sdcard. I wanted to start fresh with this card in the triumph and everything went smoothly. However, I was getting suspicious when the rom installed in probably 15-20 seconds.. I thought nothing of it.

I rebooted the phone like youre supposed to from CWM and then the chaos began. The phone stayed stuck on the motorola logo forever. I pulled out the battery, and tried the whole process again, again the rom installed unusually fast (maybe because i jumped from a 8gb class 6 card to a class 10 32gb?) and I was stuck on the moto logo.

I began freaking out because this is my primary device, I looked at all the unbrick threads on here but none of them work. I did the download mode image folder copy/paste but that didnt do anything either... Am I screwed? I also tried to flash the MTDEV Unroot rom but that is also not going past the moto logo screen, it flicked once or twice about 4 mins into boot process.

I have no idea what i can do... help me please

ps: when i try to flash a kernel or anything like that after installed the sharp/u9000 rom, CWM just goes back the main menu recovery screen.

still trying to keep the faith here... im trying to back to full stock in an effort to do whatever it takes to unbrick this. here is what i have done so far to no avail..

1.) used CWM to reset sys/cache/dalvik
2.) restored a stock nandroid i found on the root guides here (in order to get this backup into the sdcard, created a "clockworkmod" folder and a "backup" subfolder, is this step correct?)
3.) shut down phone
4.) reboot into download mode
5.) flash the stock recovery by copy/pasting from the recovery.zip file
6.) power down, wait a few seconds, then power up

..... still stays on the motorola logo screen ive waited for 10+ minutes and there has been no VM boot animation or even that ripples animation on the moto logo you see when you boot a stock triumph

im beginning to think i must have done some big time damage to the phone... will vm even send me a replacement?

if ur under warrenty and dont tell them what u did just tell them the phone is stuck on booting they will replace but if ur not under warrenty then ur sol

really? there is nothing i can do? I do not think the phone is fully bricked though because i can still go into the cmw recovery, download mode and the battery charges. can others weigh in on this issue?

I had wierdness when I used a 32gb sandisk card. (Got it black friday from best buy). The card is probably fine, but the MT is not 100% at writing to it and messes it up regularly. After I copied everything onto the card my phone would freeze and lock up. I changed roms, seemed ok, when I wanted to go back to a backed up rom in clockwork it would fail restoring data. I was thinking that my memory inside the phone was bad. In the end I traced it back to the /data directory on the SD card having corrupt files.

Try removing the SD card completely and seeing if it will boot the rom. If so, then copy everything off your rom, reformat it (using clockwork) and copy just the media you want back, let the system recreate the directories.

Do regular backups of your sd card - you may need them more often than you used to.

If, however, it won't boot without an sd card, it's another problem.

i think this may be the issue because none of the usual android or android.secure show up on the card after "installing" a rom... ill try using my ancient 2gb class 4 sdcard now... sigh..

no dice... i used my old 2gb sd card to restore the stock nandroid file using CWM and shut the phone off with CWM.

then I copied the stock recovery.img while the phone was on download mode.

after turning it on, it still doesnt get past the moto logo.

what am i doing wrong here... should i try it without using the stock recovery.img?

i do not think the phone has a rom in it anymore after doing the factory wipe/cache/dalvik but i tried it anyways and it too could not get past the moto logo without the sdcard in it. FML haha

i also completely deleted the image file that shows up in download mode and copied over a new image file from Austrie's thread here: [FIX]Mobile Partition - Fix For Phone Wont Boot. The google docs link is at the very bottom, my phone does have 6 barcodes under the battery, i was digging in some of the threads and some had issues using that image file because their triumph was an older model with 7 barcodes under the battery.

should i format that mobile partition and try to copy this image file to it??? ive never reformatted that 100mb or so mobile partition that comes up in download mode

Okay format your system and try installing a stock ROM. I've had this issue before as well. DO NOT move to a stock recovery under any circumstances.

just to be clear

do you want to format the MOBILE drive that comes up in download mode and the use that image file i mentioned above, then copy the CWM recovery.img and restore the nandroid of the stock?

I HAVE GOOD NEWS!!

so ever since the U9000 rom failed to install properly on my 32gb card, ive been trying to get back to stock.

then i used my 2gb card and again spent hours to get back to stock. It just occurred to me, that i could just try installing the U9000 again for kicks since nothing else was working..

so i used the image file skearton posted in that other thread, then I flashed CWM.
Then I installed the rom like normal, and amazingly it effing worked!

I couldnt believe it, after spending all night and pretty much all of this morning fixing this, all i needed to do was to install a non-stock rom through CWM..... but I'm glad that the phone is actually working

do i dare use the 32gb card again? how can i make this work on my 32 gb card, I really like to use it since its brand new, and I'd like to carry my music with me (i have a long commute and listen to music on the way).

What is the safest way I can still use the 32gb and run the U9000 or Sharp rom?

Finally, thanks to all of you who responded. You helped me stay sane during this process hahah.

Swap your sd card out and see how it goes. You shouldnt encounter the same issue again.

Also congrats on getting it sorted out.
