Firstly let me say I am very experienced as a tech support manager in computers and recovering data from crashed disks, so bear with me. This problem may have a simple answer but it does have a lot of facts to digest first, which may or may not be relevant. I have used the phone all over the world in this configuration taking thousands of photos. These are usually backed up whenever there is a wifi connection. It just so happens at LeMans there was no WiFi and I lost most of 3 days of photos/videos. I say most because 3 sets of burst photos on the first day and 5 burst mode photos on the second night were still there. All other, perhaps 200, photos taken over the weekend were lost, but none of the 24000 other images on the phone and card were lost. I know the photos were taken because some were reviewed using the camera app display. I am not sure if I ever reviewed them using Gallery, but would this make a difference?
On returning to UK I found they had been lost so did some investigation including rooting the phone and using Wondershare Dr Fone for Android. I had extensive support from Wondershare but hey admitted they knew of a problem in the app not identifying file names or displaying thumbnails of some (in my case most) of the photos. So I was not sure if the program actually found any of the lost files. I suspect not. I was wary about using these two pieces of software to break into the phone. The Android system should either include such functions or its security system should be strong enough not to allow them in! I did realise the risk I was taking.
Anyhow the phone still took pictures and was able to display them, but after a while (possibly when the camera app was put to sleep) the taken photos were lost. Note there was nothing in LOST.DIR. I also searched the phone for today's files and the dates when I had lost the files using the Windows
