Help Lost Pics from the Camera Folder

For the second time, I have lost all pictures I've take with this phone that automatically get put in the camera folder. I have camera set to store on SD card. Gone. Can't find in file managers. Anyone have this happen or have an explanation? Or how to get them back? Stock, unrooted.

Put the SD card into a card reader and attach it to your computer. Run PhotoRec - CGSecurity If there's anything recoverable, that will recover it.
