Help Lost sms/mms and call hist after reset

Samsung S7 Edge - Oreo install failed - VZ tech did a remote factory reset but I've lost all text messages and call history. Phone is not rooted. Question - does a factory reset archive any data that could be restored? I had call history and text messages checked to be saved to VZ cloud but since they started charging per month (and I didn't opt for that since all photos/videos/music are backed up on PC). They still backup contacts so they were restored, but not SMS/MMS or call records. Is there any possible way to recover them?
Thanks,
AJG

Probably not. You need to make backups in advance. Frankly even with root (which will be hard with a Verizon S7) I doubt that they are recoverable.

There are many third party apps that will back these things up for free, including to the cloud, so you don't have to use Verizon's paid service. But that only helps in future, not now.

Never rooted a phone before. I do have an SD card which seems to have a mirror of the folders on the device itself with creation dates going back over a year. I usually keep all pics/videos/music on the SD card but noticed that it does have an Android/data folder. Any chance they could be stored there?

Text messages and call logs are stored in a protected database and not as an accessible file. This file gets deleted with a factory reset so unless you backed them up, they are gone. Rooting, file recovery or wishful thinking wont get them back for you, sorry.
