lots of "Awake" time

rsarno

Thank Me, Im Irish!
I'm on my second full discharge, I'm not thrilled with the results.
10hrs unplugged
1.5hr screen on
45min phone usage
Minor browsing, minor app play, wifi all day

But I'm sure this will improve after break in period. I'm posting this because after looking in my battery usage chart I notice the phone was "awake" for most of the day.

Common sense tells me this could be impacting battery performance. Yes?

So how do I track which process is keeping the phone awake?

Another question, why is Phone Usage so high on the battery chart? I always thought using the phone was a very light process. Otherwise even dumb phones would get terrible battery times when used heavily.

Thanks for any info.

- posted from my TF201 which happens to be way better than your iPad :)

Had a similar issue. I installed CPU Spy and removed and re-inserted my battery. Not sure if one or a combo of both did the trick, but now I get like 12 hours with very heavy use and 24 hours with light use.

Maybe im crazy? Here is a screenshot from yesterday. Is that normal or should i look into correcting it?

I did find this thread:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/563008-battery-saving-tip-really-works.html

Which discusses something about IP addresses. This cant be the cause for a lot of Awake time, can it? Otherwise it must be a bug in the phone. No way a common housewife is going through all this stuff, before just returning the phone lol

Also so I dont make another post, I read the stickys and cant find much along the lines of "battery saving tips" specific for this phone. If there has been such a thread, please link me. Thanks.

Can someone take a look at this and tell me if this might be the culprit?

I installed this app to monitor my data usage

Does "Stay awake time" = phone awake time?

Yeah, anything with "stay awake" time adds to the phone awake time.

You should use apps like my data manager and better battery stats to solve problems rather than keep them as permanent monitors imo.

I.e. if your battery/data usage is too high and you don't know why, install them and find out what's going on, then uninstall them once you've found. They tend to run in the background and cause wake locks.

That said, I also have my data manager installed and it doesn't cause wake locks for me. Better battery stats does, however.

here is something to check, it was killing my battery. If Gallery is running and causing awake time, go to settings/accounts and sync. Select your google account. scroll to the bottom and UNCHECK sync with Picasa Web Albums. If you don't use Picasa, and this is checked, it seems to continue it's syncing attempts forever, causing Awake State.

im an old Android rat, i know all about this! But thanks for the tip.

PS, did a factory reset and battery pull last night. So far it has helped! Now ill slowly start using apps again and checking to see if they are causing a problem.

I just downloaded CPU spy and this was the screen I got. Not really sure how to interpret this data. Any help?
