low disk space issue

Hey all i have installed roughly 70 apps and now my phone is saying low disk space. I have used up all the mem on the phone with these apps it seems. How do i get around this issue? anyway of storing and running them off the sd card as i wish to install more. I have roughly halg a g left on the sd card.

besides rooting there are a couple other things.

-If a program allows you to save cache/history to the SD card, make sure it's doing that - I know that Twidroid, for example, lets you do this.

-Speaking of Cache, try clearing that, and the history in your browser. Often frees up a lot of memory.

-I've noticed that completely uninstalling an app and re-installing only the lastest version can reduce the overall size of the application.

-I've heard that continuing to download and install after the warning can sometimes force the Marketplace app to reduce it's own cache size. Or something like that.

so really other than rooting my phone and voiding the warranty i cant do much. i keep the cache clean at all times. that is really poor on the phones behalf

Browser cache is a killer for me... I've started using Steel, and find that I can't clear it's cache... Currently it's sucking 6mb...

Worse - I find when the low disk space icon is up my phone won't sync mail/calendar/contacts.

I'm not sure I would have jumped onto the G1 if I realized that I couldn't use the SD card to store/run applications... I really hope that after Cupcake that the Android gurus figure a way for us non-rooted users to use the SD card.

Uninstall "Steel" that should clear cache ... then reinstall it if you want to continue using it ...

I thought you could have steel save it's cache and history to the SD card?

You may be able to ? I am not sure ... but it may default to the phone memory ... I know there isnt a "clear data" like there is for the default browser ...

I have had Steel installed for a long time ... so don't recall if it was part of original setup ???

there is asetting for no cache

OOOPS !! there is a clear Cache :o
Clear History & Clear Cookies & Clear Passwords... Clear Form Data...

I also have had the issue of low memory and no email downloaded and sluggish performance.

I chose to delete apps off the phone. Not ideal, but the less used ones can always be re-downloaded if you "really" need them. It did clear things up. Not an elegant solution by any stretch.

I clean both caches, histories, etc from both browsers and regained about 7MB ... was nice to add that to my 4MB existing and get rid of the LowMemory Notification ...
