No, actually, it's loud enough and very clear on mine. I do remember some people having issues with call volume which was enough to get a replacement phone from AT&T.
While you are in a call, press the vol up button to maximum. If it's still not very loud, you might want to take it in for someone to look at.
Did some research it seems that at least some of these phones appear to have a strange issue where the customer finds it very hard to hear who is on the line... Fixes appear hit and miss at this point, hoping that Gingerbread will have some thing to address the issue
