Low on Space

I also frequently get the notification "low on space", will rooting my phone and moving apparently to my SD card help eliminate this problem? Thanks in advance. :smokingsomb:

yes moving apps to your SD card will help with that issue, how much User space do you have built into your phone?

there has to be a way to remove that warning. i get it often (until flashing a ROM that had the threshold lowered where it rarely, if ever, shows) and what i hate most is that it kills email sync with gmail and contact sync and even SMS texts. it can happen even with 20MB left, and that's plenty to get some Gmail, a few contacts, and text messages. i understand why it is there in the notification area, but killing sync should never be the result.

but you don't have to be rooted to use SD storage. not sure why that always comes up. starting with Froyo 2.2, you can move apps to the SD card (the system files that are necessary stay on the user space in internal storage whether you're rooted or not) by going to Settings-->Applications-->Manage Applications--[select app]-->move to SD card

Without root it only moves part of the app data to the sd card(majority of the app and its corresponding user data stays on the phone memory); with root you can move the entire app and its data to the sd card. You need to partition the sd card to do it, but it frees up a lot more space than the standard app2sd.

With over a hundred apps on a teensy Optimus, my phone is living proof that rooting is not necessary. Sure, with rooting, I could make more space by uninstalling factory apps that I never use, but the following has made life possible for me:

Check the sizes of every app you’ve installed and find its smallest usable replacement.

Use any of the zillion apps available to move other apps to SD.

Believe it or not, Settings > Applications > Google Maps > Uninstall Updates is essential, in my case at least.

clearing cache can be a friend too. don't clear data unless you like adding your info back, but you'd be surprised how much the cache of Facebook, for example, can grow. clearing cache differs from clearing data in that it doesn't eliminate your app settings (account info, etc)
