Low storage space

"There is not enough storage space available to complete this action. Please clear some space and try again"

I have like 2GB free on both the external SD and internal storage. Does anyone know why this is happening? And how to fix it?

Have you tried clearing the cache in certain programs like internet and email? from my understanding, each phone has a set amount of space allowed for apps, and once that is filled, it doesn't matter how much other storage space is left, that space is meant for music, etc. Someone come in and correct me if i'm wrong? but I find that clearing my caches frees up a bunch of space.

A trick I taught myself that my teensy Optimus couldn’t live without:

Go to Settings > Manage apps. When you find anything force-fed, like Maps, uninstall its enormous updates. That creates a ton of extra memory for you to live your life in.

@ hawkester: I see from your picture that you are using a Samsung device, but I am not sure which model. One reply here mentioned the Optimus.

Could you please verify which model it is so that I can move this thread to the proper section so that your question will get more exposure and help?

TIA

LG makes the Optimus.

So I can see you have a Samsung device on Gingerbread.

Hold the home button, then press on "Task Manager". Select the "Storage" Tab. You will see four values: Internal Phone Storage, Personal Storage, Internal SD card and External SD card. Can you post the values for it?

Move all the apps you can to SD card and clear caches on a regular basis, particularly browser/maps/FB.

One thing to consider, Hawkester, is that SMS/MMS messages are stored in system memory. Depending on how many messages you have, you could have very little memory available on your device. There is a fantastic free app called SMS Cleaner that delete will old messages, the timeframe which you specify. I highly recommend it for clearing out messages that you will likely never refer back to again. You may be surprised how much memory old messages can take up!

Hope this helps :)
