Lyft or Uber

Clementine_3

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
While in Boston recently we Ubered around town and it was a fine experience (my son uses it occasionally). I decided to install both and have them just in case I ever wanted to use them. I like Lyft's app better I think, but I like that Uber has the 911 button/call thingy.

So, who uses which and why? Also, any drivers out there...which do you prefer?

I have used Uber on a couple of occasions (with friends) I have never had either app. I think my age (46) predicates that I too feel more comfortable with travel by bus, train or cab.

I use whichever is cheaper. So I've used both many times without any issues. I think the bad press on Uber is political and therefore has nothing to do with my personal ride.

Isn't Lyft US only? While Uber has tried to go into many countries globally, with some quite high profile controversies, legal problems, and failures, like China.

I know people who have had bad experiences with Uber drivers - not the criminal stuff you read about, but crap you I've never met elsewhere. And remember this is the UK, where they are more tightly regulated than in the States (and a lot more so than they want to be).

A lot of cities here have cancelled their license in the last year though, for a range of reasons but which generally come down to the same thing, the company not being willing to accept that it has responsibilities or that the same rules should apply to it as to others.

No experience of Lyft, I assume they are a US only operation.

When a certain group of friends of mine and I go to various beer tasting events we get dropped off by one of our wives but after that we Uber if we go anywhere else since the amount of different beers we are tasting makes it quite impossible to drive afterwards. It's fairly popular here in Milwaukee and we haven't had a bad experience yet. I don't think our taxi companies have apps for rides so in that aspect it is easier to Uber than taxi. We have one of the best bus systems in the country but we are older and spoiled , plus I am pretty sure the crowd on the bus wouldn't be as entertained by us as we tend to be ourselves ;)
