M113 Armored Personnel Carrier

I was trained to ride inside this vehicle. This was after that whole Vietnam/US thing.

Seemslike every US soldier in Vietnam learned the top was safer than riding inside it.

What does the US use now for troop transport now besides trucks?

Is it actually bulletproof?

first off.....thank you for your service.

second, i have no idea. you would think they would be bullet proof.

why was it safer on top then inside?

I think they've been using versions of armored H1 Humvees.. Those are pretty wicked, can climb a 30° slope with flat tires. Seen some desert style rolling down the interstate, I'd swear the glass looked about 2-3" thick.. Probably a polycarbon, which is bulletproof even in thinner sheets. The body looked like I wouldn't wanna shoot at it (myself) with anything just in fear of getting hit with ricochet
