Help M8 "Wifi direct" access to Samsung 6 series smart tv

I am trying to use Wi-Fi direct access from my HTC M8 to my Samsung series 6 tv. The detection process works ok but the tv wants to send a WPC or pin authentication. But the phone does not respond with the invitation to connect... I've seen this work on you tube, but in that example the tv just connected with out a pin authorisation, and the phone showed an invitation to connect... Any ideas how to get the phone to bring up a dialogue box to enter the pin number ?

Based on my research, at this time (for what you are looking to do) There is no solution. Samsung has an app built into their phones that handles the authentication and allows you to connect to Samsung TV's using WiFi Direct. Currently you need 3rd party apps just to utilize the beaming technology for WiFi direct.

However, if you are just looking to play videos on the TV or show pictures you can simply open any media file, or picture in the gallery and look at the top of the screen. You will see what looks like a small computer with a play symbol to the left of the menu dots. You can use this to send the media file to the TV using WiDi technology as long as your phone and TV are connected to the same network.

If you need more help with this, please let us know!

Ok so I tried your suggestion, and I'm not entirely sure that my telly supports WiDi which is the Intel wireless display system, but tried any way... So I pressed said button nothing happened directly, but when I ran the WiFi direct menu again on the tv it found the phone and again asked PBC or pin which the phone ignored...

I have a newer UN60F8000 and WiFi Direct works perfectly. It didn't ask me for a pass code, they just connected. I will try my UN40ES6500 later and see what I get.

I could not find any references to WiFi Direct compatibility to your specific model. Is there anything in your user manual. I would look it up but I'm in a hotel and the internet is terrible (they want 20 Euros for high speed!)

I'll have to check the manual, but as you can see from the screen shot the option is available...

Absolutely! But it may specify "for use with Samsung Galaxy products!" in the manual. It wouldn't surprise me, they like for you to use their devices (Gear comes to mind) and it would be a great integration incentive for them to try and make people stay with the Samsung brand with features like WiFi Direct.

screen mirroring works with my samsung smart TV but it doesnt work with my Samsung all share cast Dongle. I find that Odd

Ok It looks like with your TV you will have to mess around with the WPS options. Open up WiFi Direct on your TV then go into the M8 Settings then Wifi and then the Menu button and try either WPS Push or WPS Pin Entry and see if that does anything... It may not work because I think you have to select the phone in your TV settings and in order to do that you have to be in the WiFi Direct screen but it is worth a try. Look in your manual, it will outline this procedure. Also have you updated the Firmware on your TV, according to Samsung's site the most current one was released April 28th 2014.
