MAC business user seeks specific Note compatibility advice

Hi - realise there are plenty of iPhone vs sgNote reviews out there. I don't need convincing that the Note is a better phone.

I use my Mac and travel a lot. Download bulk at home and work/sync as required when away.

Most used apps with current iPhone/mac:
  • email (I have 6 email accounts running - business, personal, and 4x client)
  • browsing
  • itunes (I download music AND audiobooks, also sync to a shared hard disc music storage)
  • diary - I live by my diary and it's ability to sync with my iphone without me prompting

I use a lot of apps which I'm pretty sure I could find replacements for in the Android world but the above and it's syncing capability is paramount. Basically, if I can't auto sync, the phone's not going to be a go-er for me... and I'd really like it to be.

Thanks

I use mostly Macs (1 iMac, 1 Macbook Pro, and another iMac at a contract job at a university). Everything works and syncs up perfectly fine for me.

Email really depends on what kind of systems they are. I have two Google accounts (one gmail, one is a Google apps @ my small business domain) and a Microsoft Exchange 2003 account for the university work. The two Google accounts go through the Gmail app and the Exchange goes through the regular Email app.

Browsing-- do you want everything to sync up with it? I've never found a need for that. But I think Opera on phone and computer OR Chrome on phone and computer will do that. I think they call it Chrome 2 Phone for it. I do have my Google searches set up to be saved under my web history, and I use that all the time on both the phone and computer browsers.

iTunes-- I usually just plug the phone into the computer and transfer them that way. Sometimes I'll drag and drop, and I think I've also got a program that makes sure the metadata stays intact or whatever, but drag and drop does that, too. You can also do it through wifi with some apps. I think doubletwist will do it. I'll let someone else comment on any other options.

I've actually been purchasing my music through Amazon for a while now. It will automatically download to my phone and I just download a small file, which will then start the d/l and will automatically import it into my iTunes on the computer.

Diary-- EverNote and Catch.com are good options. I use the Catch.com service for my notes. Then they have two apps to use it. One is just called Catch and it's more robust. You can add images and other files in the notes. The other is AK Notepad and it's very simple, where you can just bring up a note or make a new one and start typing right away. You can bring it up on your web browser, too. EverNote also syncs up through web, phone, and a computer program which is available for Mac. I tried using it for a while, but I never stuck with it. I just like Catch better for some reason.

Anything else? So yeah, there's no reason that an Android phone and Mac computers can't live well together. :)

thanks! I'm happy to try new software. Diary remote syncing is the biggie for me. Someone advised me today that they use the google calendar which auto syncs, and that sounded interesting.

Oh yeah, that too! I use iCal on my iMac and the iMac in my university office. I have them set up to sync with my Google Calendar, which also syncs to the phone. It updates in a matter of seconds when you make a change on whichever platform. It's very handy!

Let's see... what else is there that would need sync'ing? :D
