Help Magnetic sensor screen wake!

Finally figured out that the LG Volt has a magnetic sensor for waking up screen.
It's located on the left edge, about mid way down the length.
If you have your screen off and take magnet and swipe it near the sensor, you'll see that screen would wake up (not from screen tap, or button).

This was driving me crazy as I have a holder that has a magnet in it and every time I put the phone in, or take it out, the screen would turn on. Finally figure out that I wasn't accidentally waking the screen up, but in fact this is by design to wake.

The original intention was probably work with a phone flip cover so that when the flip opens, the screen would turn on automatically (like what iPad does). However, since I don't have a flip cover, this is actually extremely annoying.

Does anyone know how to disable this magnetic wake sensor? My phone is rooted, so I'm open to modifying system files to to disable this 'feature'.

There is a setting that you disable. I remember that it is right below the plug and pop setting. The option to get to this setting is in settings and then I think it's in the features menu or what ever is one of the last options. Sorry I'm not being very descriptive, my volt is still being held hostage by lg.

Thanks for trying. What I found is the "accessory" menu has a quickwindow case option.
This controls half of the problem I have.
The problems I have are=-:
1) Screen is off + magnet = screen turns on)
2) Screen is on + magent = screen locks and then shrinks to 'quickwindow'

If I play with the "quickwindows" option that you suggested, it disables #2.
My main problem is #1. When I put my phone into my case, it turns on the screen.
Your suggestion doesn't address this.

Take the magnet out of the case?

Don't think this is an option. I have holster with a flap to hold the phone in the case. The magnet is what holds the flip in place. If I remove the magnet the flap would be flipping around and my phone would probably fall out when I bend down.

I see. I was thinking the magnet placement was intentional to interact with this sort of sensor, not coincidental to the design of the case. Can you put the phone in backwards?

I've been putting the phone in upside down as a work around, this requires some awkward hand motion. Putting it backwards uses more natural hand motion, but right now the flap doesn't close fully when I put it in backwards. I think probably the leather has been shaped to the other direction. I hope if I keep placing it backward the leather would reshape and close properly after a few days.
For now I'll try this. But I do hope there is some software solution.
I did find that someone has written an xposed module to turn off magnetic sensor, but it was written for motoG, so it didn't work on our LG.

Spend 5 bucks and get a new case. Magnets aren't good for cell phones or batteries. Problem solved.

Well, we're not talking about some high power neodymium magnet here, just a little clasp magnet. Considering the phone has a magnetic sensor, it can't be that bad for it.

I think all the holsters that I've seen are all either magnetic or Velcro.
I really don't like the noise of the Velco opening.
Years ago, some use snap buttons, but I have not seen those around anymore.
I suppose if I can find those, that could work.

But the bottom line is that, there should be some software/setting that can be changed. Especially since my phone is rooted. But really, this should have been an accessory setting that LG should have put in to allow users to disable the magnetic sensor if user doesn't have the type of flip cover that the sensor was designed to work with.
The setting in the accessory menu can disable the sensor when the screen is on, they just need to have another item to disable/enable the sensor when the screen is off.

Another point is that keeping the magnetic sensor active will consume some power, if not needed disabling it would help battery life.

I had tried it already, all 3 versions. Non of them work on volt.
At first I thought Xposed is not working, but I tried installing a different module and that module works.
So my conclusion is the motomagnetoff module doesn't work.

I wrote to LG customer support about this problem. I'm hoping that they will fix the software.
LG's response is to do a factory reset to fix it.
I wonder if this is just a generic response, and not something that they know will fix the problem.

It would be a pain to have to re-setup my phone after factory reset.
Another concern is whether I might lose root from doing a factory reset.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like generic response to me. The sensor isn't malfunctioning, it needs to be disabled.

Or they misunderstood you...

I wrote them that factory reset didn't work, they said that they can do a warranty repair...but I'll lose my phone for at least 2 weeks.
This is definitely not worth it. Plus I don't think the technician would do anything other than reflash the phone which I can do myself. Not to mention having to unroot the phone before sending it in.:(

I guess I'll have to live with the workaround.

I might have found your solution. For those who don't know, our device has hidden settings for many things that Optimus UI offers, albeit they don't all work.

My favorite is screenshot settings where taking a screenshot cuts out the status bar.

Anyway, get the app Activity Launcher and run it. Hit the drop-down menu and select all activities.

Go to settings, and open the activities in it. Look for Quick Case. It has an option to disable the feature.

Best part is you don't need root. The screenshot setting is under Screenshots or something similar.

I tried it but it didn't work. There's about 7 quick case/quick window items. Tried them all, and none of them disable the magnetic sensor. They do work when I enabled quick case/quick window. I do see proper behavior of screen turning on/off, shrinking when I enable those features.
However, disabling quick case/window didn't disable magnetic sensor.

I'm starting to wonder if factory reset might fix it, but just seem like too much work to restore data/apps.
