Mail application losing smtp settings

I have an HTC Sensation, and I'm having trouble with the Mail application.

  • I configured incoming email using an IMAP server from imapserver.com, with username imap_user (names changed for security reasons).
  • I configured outgoing email using an SMTP server smtp.smtpserver.com, with username smtp_user. The "checking account settings" thing runs, and checks out, so I go on to the next configuration panel.
After this, incoming mail works, but outgoing email does not work. When I go back to review the settings, I discovered that the SMTP username/password have changed from smtp_user to imap_user. This is completely reproducible.

I also notice that if, before finishing the configuration sequence, I hit the "back" button after entering the SMTP info (which checks out), the same problem shows up -- the username/password has changed from smtp_user to imap_user.

This really looks like a bug. I've installed the K9 client and configured it as above, and that works fine, both outgoing and incoming.

Anyone else seeing this?

I have exactly the same problems on both my Desire and my wife's sensation since our mail provider changed security so that our download (POP3) and SMTP now don't have the same username and password.

Very frustrating, particularly as it verifies access when entering the configuration then appears to imediately change the SMPT username back to the POP3 username.

Did you find a solution?

Thanks

Bill
