Mail client fails to refresh delete emails deleted on server

Among the dumber aspects of Android which Google has stubbornly failed to address is this:

You sync a POP3 email account (Comcast in my case).
You delete messages off the server.
You refresh your Android email app.
It downloads the new messages, but doesn't delete the old ones which you deleted on the server.

As a result, you can't tell by looking at your phone after a day or two which emails you have already attended to, because Android stupidly retains even the ones you deleted off the server.

I found a work around, for a while, by installing Mail Droid, which interestingly solved this sync problem on Android's mail client. But since some updates, it reverted to its old way.

C'mon Google, you can't call it syncing if it doesn't map to the server. At least provide a user defined setting. If Apple can do it, so can you.

Exactly! That has been bugging me too!

I started a thread to see if there was a simple way to have the email app just not check the mail while the tablet is sleeping (there is not). Seems like such an obvious thing to leave out.

That's true POP3 behavior. My desktops have been doing that for years.

The IMAP protocol has the behavior you want as a fundamental feature.

If IMAP isn't an option, perhaps try an email client that includes the feature to sync deleted mail as you describe (in other words, this is extension that adds versatility to the POP protocol).

I'm not 100% sure but I think K-9 Mail, free in the Market, has this feature. If you use the HTC Mail client, the option for this is under Send & Receive.

Hope this helps! :)

PS - don't know what to suggest about sleep. You may wish to try a scheduling software to wake up at intervals if your mail client can't do that.

Clients do include schedules where you can set the polling rate you prefer including none at night.

You may also want to check into Juice Defender or Green Power to see if they have suitable options.
