Help Maintaining a persistant data signal?

Hello,

I play a browser based game called Syrnia and am having a small problem playing on the Backflip.

This game uses timers to determine when things happen. As long as I have the game up and active (the browser up in the screen and the screen turned on the game runs fine. When I put the browser in the background the game will sometimes continue on and sometimes not.

When I close the phone up and allow it to go to standby the same thing happens, sometimes the game runs along fine, other times it does not.

I do not recall messing with any of the settings.

I am running Dolphin, and I have installed the 2 updates motorola released (was having this problem before the update so we can't blame that).

Is there a setting I can toggle or an app that i can use to ensure that the game continues to run?

Thank you,

Shinji

That is a feature of the Android OS, so unless someone develops an app specifically for that game and uses a few techniques to keep the phone from sleeping, then no, that cannot be done. Basically the reason why that happens is whenever an application (in this case, the browser) isn't in the foreground, the Operating System will pause it to save resources for other tasks. This is also used to save battery, and without it your phone would be dead in a matter of hours. Similarly, when your phone goes into standby, many applications will disconnect from the internet entirely, and then reconnect for brief times in order to make sure it didn't miss anything. Again, this is used to prevent your phone from having to be constantly charged.

Having said that, even if someone did develop an app specifically to work around these issues, it would probably be detrimental to your battery life, unless they were pretty smart about it and only brought the phone out of sleep during the periodic updates. So, you could look at the Market to see if someone has come up with something, but other than that there's not much that can be done.
