Help Major battery / phone issue with my HTC DESIRE. Not like normal...

Ok so I have a HTC desire A8181 (I think?) I've had it for 3 and a half years almost.

Its a great phone, still competetive with other phones, does the job.

Now since owning it I've never had a case, never lost it, never broken the screen and never really dropped it (21 y/o student thats good going)

Only issue I've had until now is the common power button breakage that I had repaired under warranty.

Now, however, I've come across a problem that I can't seem to find a fix for anywhere online, my phone powers off from one bar of battery loss, I could literally charge it all the way to the green light and use it for about 20 minutes before it pops up on the screen saying 1% or less followed immediately (within half a second) by the "powering off" screen.

I can confirm its not the phone just crashing, because if I turn it on it powers off as if the battery is flat, then I have to charge it for about an hour or so before the green light comes back and I'm at square one.

First thought was replace the battery, so I did that and the issue continued EXACTLY the same as before, so it's not the battery itself, but the phone.

Next step was doing the manual battery calibration seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_C4hWi7_Bg4 you go through a process of powering off the phone and on and off until it resets the battery data file, however this didn't work.

Finally I rooted the phone today, installed a battery calibration app and used it. Didn't work.

So here I am, I've googled for days, searched forums and tried every available fix and nothing seems to work.

PLEASE help me, even if its just to let me know that I have a broken phone beyond repair, because at the moment my phone is like a landline.. It has to be plugged in charging to use.

Thanks for your help, you don't believe how useful it is!

Hi Kieran,

I have to admit this one is a puzzle. Like you my first guess would be that the battery had died, but then changing the battery should fix that.

I don't know whether this will help, but you could try going into recovery and wiping the battery statistics. I think that's a long shot, but I can't see how you've anything to lose by trying it.

This is a tough one.
I thought unless it was the battery that was faulty, a battery stats wipe would fix it.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, I'm intrigued.

Ok so no real developments..

however I may be on to something, since having the problem I haven't seen any other battery status levels other than 100% - 90% (after fully charged until the phone turned off) and 5-0% charge (when I powered it back on after loosing charge) however I just did the putting the battery in the freezer trick a go and after that the battery status is showing 50% and held for 10 minutes before powering off.

Perhaps its just a battery problem?

I did replace the battery, but being that it's 3 years old I decided to go for a cheapy one as I wasn't too fussed on the quality.. however maybe the "new" battery has a similar problem to the last?

I'll send it back for a replacement and see how that goes.

Either way I'll be sure to reply so that anyone suffering my problem in the future with have a fix !

It appears it was the new battery, strange as it seems..

all sorted now!

however in the process I threw the phone on the floor and smashed the screen like a nob !

Cheeers then

Too late alas! My HTC Desire A8181 is also at least 3 years old. I have original docs and noted that only model BB99100 must be used. I've had no battery problems whatever.
