Major Name?

I think I've decided that I would like to go on to college and study mobile technology, so I may get a career in helping design future smartphones and other mobile technologies. However, I have no idea what this major might be called, or what schools offer it. If you guys could help me out, that would be great. I'm currently in my junior year, and I need to start applying to schools by the end of this school year, and it would help if I knew where to go. :D

You're looking for Engineering :)

from Wikipedia

Engineering is the discipline, art, skill and profession of acquiring and applying scientific, mathematical, economic, social, and practical knowledge, in order to design and build structures, machines, devices, systems, materials and processes that safely realize improvements to the lives of people.

I am also after this major. :) You should talk to your guidance at school and see what he/she has to say for you. Just say exactly what you just said in that first post and he/she should be able to tell your more in detail what kind of major to go after. Engineering is a very broad term. I'm not sure of the specifics of the majors involved in Engineering. A less of a broad term would be Electrical Engineering (go figure) however, that is still a very broad major.

You can read more on Electrical Engineering here.

Ask your guidance for recommendations of colleges that, perhaps local, would satisfy your needs and wants :)

Since I'm in the south, I have decided on Georgia Institute of Technology for plan A and Auburn University for plan B. Both are within 2 driving hours from my home ;)

Good luck! :D

Under Electrical Engineering, he should be looking specifically Electronics and Communication Engineering (BSECE), often in colleges these are offered as separate degrees compared to Electrical Engineering (BSEE).

Thanks! In my area of Indiana, not many people really know of or understand Electrical engineering. Now that I have some idea of what to call it, I think I'll have to make the drive up to Purdue University sometime soon and check out what they can offer me. If they cant help me, IUPUI is closer and might offer it. If neither of those schools offer it, I'll do something outrageous and go to Stanford.
