major problem with dialer

my phone at the end of the day should be a phone however all my apps work except my dialer. it only sorta works. anytime i dial a number and press the green call button the screen goes black i have to press the power button to get it back on and the dial pad comes up. then i have to press the keypad button to get it to the call placed screen. if at any point another call comes in while I'm in "black screen mode" all buttons...everything... physical buttons and all go completely dead. the only way to get it back is either plug it in or do a battery pull. now it must be stated that i dropped the phone a few days ago and cracked the screen. thats was when it started this behavior. however the screen has since been repaired but the problem still exists..... please help

Maybe the issues is more than just the screen? You don't state a device model, but have you checked that forum for suggestion?

Have you taken the device to an authorized repaired shop?

Sounds like something could be blocking the proximity sensor. If anything is blocking that sensor during a call, it force locks the screen so that your cheek wont click buttons.
