I am a Physician. Big changes are taking place. Hospitals and Offices are changing to EHRs and dictation services are giving away to electronic ones. Doctors often have to go from office to hospitals (very often more than one). They have to document in the EHRs everywhere they go. Often hospitals no longer supply dictation services, so doctors are having to type or template Histories. Now imagine this. What if a doctor can carry with him his own dictation device. One that can plug into any computer and act like a keyboard that is easy to use except you just have to talk in to it. It would be a must for every doctor. If Dragon naturally speaking Medical edition was programed into an Android device, maybe a persons personal recognition files downloaded into it from his home computer, and the device could be plugged into any computer he sat down at, and simply recognized as a keyboard. No need for special drivers on the computer, Or trying to get access through the WiFi. Just key it like a Mic when you talk into it and it sends the characters to the computer. The normal mouse is used to place the cursor for insertion or dragging to replace. Maybe it can store multiple usernames and passwords and insert them for him with a single password prompt. This could be BIG in the healthcare industry. I would give someone this idea just to have a device like that.

Hi and welcome to androidforums

Thats interesting. With many new phones you can already dictate to the built in keyboard (in use with all the apps on the phone including note taking apps, sms apps, email apps, office apps which save in MS formats etc). This would seem to do away with the need for a computer, or are you thinking of plugging into the healthcare authorities computers? There are apps that store passwords and can copy them to the clipboard in the phone on request - they can then be entered by the phone keyboard into any app on the phone.

I can see that a keyboard with voice recognition and ascii output could be a great tool, but to be effective in lots of languages it would need to be quite powerful and need a powerful phone. Maybe a good kickstarter project for a dev who could write the app!

Its not very different to this http://andromouse.com/

I'm saying that it would be a great product with a market. What other choices do doctors and other caregivers have. You pay $1800 dollars for dragon medical on your office computer which does no good at the Hospital. Maybe the Hospital can install a enterprise version on their system that will recognize all the doctors. Then if you Visit several hospitals or nursing homes, Will they all have an Enterprise version? Do you have to train them all to your speech? Or you can dictate in an old system where a dictationist has to type it into the chart for you maybe a long time later(a system a lot of Hospitals are phasing out due to costs). Type it all yourself while rushing through your rounds. Purchase One system that is custom to you, that is portable and will work in all settings.

It would not have to contain all languages in one device. The hospital computers are simple work stations with USBs, simple Keyboards, Maybe windows XP pro or newer. They would accept another keyboard just as any computer would. You would plug in, dictate what you needed, unplug, and the move to the next floor or to the next Hospital to repeat it over again.

That InputStick may be a Start. I'm thinking someone could build a specialized device. It would be a great opportunity for someone out there with the know how.

Thanks for the Ear.
