Help Make calls via Headphones - How?

Ok this may sound dumb but on my iphone 4s I was able to hold down the pay button on my headphones and then say 'Call....' and it would call that person. Cant seem to do that on my note 2. It was very handy when it was raining or very cold. Any ideas how I can do this very simple thing?
I tried it the same way on my note 2 but it doesnt work and couldnt find anything online regarding it.

This is really annoying me as this is a pretty standard function on ios and most other os's including blackberry. Surely there is an app or way around this????
 
Go into your dialer, click menu, then "Accessory Settings for Calls, then " Outgoing Call Conditions", at the bottom is the bt setting. Put a check mark by "make calls when device is locked".

Edit: I just realized you were probably talking about a wired headset rather than bt, but maybe it works for wired also.
 
It's funny when a dumb phone like the original moto rizr z3 (slider phone) can do it, why couldn't a flagship smartphone do it.

Looks like no solution still. Maybe if I keep on bumping this thread Samsung will notice it. LOL!

I bet this problem is tied up with the phone locking after a call is made. It seems either this phone, Samsung phones or Android in general seem to have problems when a screen lock is enabled. I miss being able to turn on the camera from my iPhone when the screen was locked (with a PIN).
