Make Skype the default dialer

I have a rooted Optimus v if it matters. I want to make Skype the default dialer if possible. I have already looked in SETTINGS/ APPLICATIONS/MANAGE APPLICATIONS/SKYPE (AND DIALER) to attempt to clear the DEFAULT SETTINGS, but they say that there are no default settings set.
 
You mean on the dock? Depends on your launcher, but in edit mode you can just drag the phone app out of the dock and put in skype there.
 
Not on the dock. When you're on a site and there's a number, you can click it and the dialer dials it. I want Skype to dial it instead of the Droid dialer, or at least ask me which dialer I want to use, just like you're asked when you have Google Voice and you attempt to make a call (it asks if you want to make the call with Google Voice or the normal dialer).
 
I found the solution. I had to uninstall Skype, then dial a number any press the Android dialer icon. Of course, that will bring up the default dialer, but then it will ask you if you want to use the dialer or Skype, and also gives you the option to make it your choice the default.
 
Yes ... that popup asking which dialer to use, or which browser etc appears until you make one of the choices default, normally on a new install of a dialer or browser. But i wonder if there is somewhere a setting that can be changed to change that default later on, like for text input for example.

Edit: Found it, go into Preferences/Applications/Manage apps/All, look for dialer and click on "delete predetermined values". Next time you choose a number to dial you will be prompted again to select Skype or Dialer, then you can tick the check box so that Skype will be your default dialer.

Is there a way to set some contacts to default to my carrier and other contacts to default to Skype, so I'm not asked every time to choose one or the other?

Excellent! Thanks Claus, was looking for how to make it give me the option again & might never have found it by myself. Slight note...for Optimus V, it's SETTINGS/../../../dialer/CLEAR DEFAULTS.
