Help Making space

I have only had my SF 2 for a few days (my first Android phone) but already I have almost filled up the main memory. I have found an App called App 2 SD which helps move some apps to the SD card (I've put a bigger one in).

How do I free up some space? There seems to be a lot of Orange stuff that I'm not likely to use, nor do I use gmail. Has anyone got a recommended list of stuff to delete and what sort of room I should try to keep free?

I don't want to totally remove Orange firmware as I need the UMA/Signal boost (the main reason for getting an Orange phone)

That's the problem with Orange. And the problem with blades: minimal ram to play with. Uninstall stuff you're not using all the time.. it'll speed things up.

I guess you do the same as with the SF1:

I'm sure Signal Boost would be available on the debranded roms. That only works on other phones with the app too right? (ie only other SF2's?)

Oh and you don't need app2sd - the included task manager does that manually - more frippery to ditch ;)
 
Thanks for the links - I'm hesitating as it's all new to me. When I've a bit more experience with its foibles, I'll give it a go.
 
Keep reading through till it makes sense. Someone posted a dedicated SF2 walkthrough now. I guess check your hardware too... these seem to come in many vaiations.
 
I am pretty certain that UMA only works if you have the Orange ROM.

I have a ZTE Skate (Orange Monte Carlo) and this does not have UMA although the Orange equivalent has.

This is the main reason I bought the SF2. Unfortunately, the UMA performance is a little patchy. Sometimes it connects automatically and other times it connects to WiFi but the UMA icon stays red rather than going green.
 
The UniversalAndroot does not seem to work on my San Francisco II :confused:


Edit - z4root doesn't work either :(


Any help please?


Edit2 - Now I think I understand why I could not root my ZTE Skate either - both are running 2.3.5. I suspect all of the existing rooting methods stop at Froyo.

Anyone managed to root 2.3.5 yet please?

I'm pretty sure that will be correct. I had a couple of Blackberry Pearl 3Gs. On the non-Orange one, I could hack it to get UMA but it was a pain and needed access to the engineering screen. I swapped it for an Orange branded one and that worked mostly without problems. It would occasionally refuse to connect - sometimes a reboot would help but sometimes I'm convinced it was down to network issues as it failed to work in two locations 100 miles apart for a couple of days and suddenly started working again.

My SF2 does UMA pretty well. It seems to connect, even when there is an OK cellular signal. It did refuse last weekend but is OK again now.

We're getting a bit off topic here, though :)
