I had some media that I didn't want appearing anytime gallery was opened or even found very easily with a file explorer. So I created a folder, put my media into it, and renamed it .nomedia, unchecked show hidden files in my file explorer, and left it on sdcard1. It worked very well until I tried to perform other functions later.
I downloaded some mp3's (sdcard0/music), modified the tags and album art on my pc, and via usb moved the modified files to sdcard1/music as I typically do. Not one of those files went through intact! Artwork missing, metadata screwed up...just bad off. I re-sent the modified files to sdcard0 and everything was fine. No problems at all. It took some time to figure out the problem, but apparently with that .nomedia file on sdcard1 everything going on to that storage location (media) was going to fail. I ended up putting the .nomedia folder into another folder named something else and just that simply was able to resend my modified music files to my specified location with no further issues.
I'm writing this to be informational to others who may have found themselves in a similar situation or may be considering making things disappear as well.
