Help Making wallpaper / backgrounds

First, is there a difference?

Second, I have photos on my desktop that I might want to use as a wallpaper. Can I?

How do I do that? I have pretty high level photo editing software...will that work?

Can i get the photo to display on all screens (when I swipe sideways, for instance?)

I appreciate any help or thoughts.

1.Yes.
2.Yes
3.Click on photo>set as wallpaper/yes.
4.Yes.

I found that the stock wallpaper app sometimes would set the wallpaper off center. So I use an app called Image2wallpaper from the Play Store. It is among my favorites. Any photo, anyway, any resolution. It takes a little getting used. Another great feature, if you ever find a photo online that won't let you download. You can share it to this app then set it as wallpaper or save it. Hard to explain but check it out.

Oh yeah. If you want a different wallpaper on every screen, there's an app for that too. ;)

I think the OP may be comparing Windows to Android. Backgrounds/Wallpaper... Desktop/Homescreen;)

Not really...which is why the answer given by sleedeane was a little confusing.

And unless I'm mistaken, this is the Android Forum..believe it or not I was aware of that. :D

I have a photo of my greyhound I would like to use as wallpaper on my Samsung Galaxy S2 4G (an android device). At present, there is a grey pattern wallpaper that displays at the home screen as well as when I swipe. (There is a different wallpaper for the lockscreen, installed by Virgin Mobile presumably.)

I would like to take a very large (in terms of pixels and resolution) photo of my greyhound and crop it and perhaps (?) resample it to fit on the Samsung.

I also thought "wallpaper" and "background" were synonymous but something I read while searching for wallpaper and wallpaper making apps made me thing that a photo (such as that of my greyhound) might not persist when the home screen was swiped. That's why I asked.

Yeah, I didn't mean it that way. I thought you wanted to use photos from your computer as wallpaper on Android. Try that app I suggested. You seem to be adept at photo finishing and editing. It is more like an editor that sets wallpaper. I think you will like it.

The lock screen however is a different matter. It is control by the locks creek settings. I think you'll have to use the native app for that.

I keep thinking of more. If you want a scrolling wallpaper, meaning 1 large photo that fills multiple screens, you may need a custom home launcher for that.

Yes definitely for the S2. The S4 doesn't even have that feature.

For photos, I use image 2 wallpaper from the play store. Works wonders

It gives you total option to resize, align, center, fit, colored backgrounds. You can pinch in or out to shrink or show what you want

I will look into that app. Thank you.

Meantime...is there a resolution, size or aspect ration that is "standard" for wallpaper? Or will that be handled by default by Image2?

The resolution is dependent in the device. Image2wallpaper should auto detect it. You can manually override it though.

Can Image2Wallpaper access photos on GoogleDrive to convert to wallpaper? Not just Gallery?

If you use Solid Explorer and have your Drive account enabled through it, just navigate to photo, long click and select "open with". I2W should be one of the choices. Either way, it will have to be downloaded.

Find out your screen resolution, and go from there. There are plenty of mobile wallpaper sites that you can search for depending on your resolution. Save em to your gallery then use I2W. But any resolution will work, really.

I also use Google images to search for mobile wallpapers using my device resolution. You will get some wierd results perhaps but some good ones too.
