Del Toro is fantastic (and so was Pacific Rim!)
As an aside, have you seen The Conjuring? Supposedly it only got its R rating for being scary despite no gore or swearing.

It was definitely scary, I watched it by myself in the dark and it made me jump several times. 4/5 stars.
