Mangled USB Port

So my wife managed to bend the middle of the USB connector along with the pins when she was trying to plug my phone in last night. Need some opinions on which option to go with.

1. Go to Verizon store and see if they will replace it under warranty (New or Refurb). I know they may deny it based just on this but there are things that I've ignored that are known issues that I could show them also. The major ones being the kickstand chipping and the headphone port issue. Neither of these were big enough issues to risk getting a bad phone since mine has been pretty solid, other than restarts.

2. File a claim with Asurion and pay the deductible.

Obviously I would rather go with option 1 and not pay out of pocket and waste a claim. I'm just curious how Verizon would handle it.

Try to get it replaced under warranty first, if they say okay then you don't have to file the claim otherwise you will just need to file a claim. I've had some other phones with charging ports going bad and usuallly VZW will replace them under contract as the port should not get damaged from normal use.

Ended up taking it to Verizon and they wouldn't do anything. They said regardless of the other issues the broken port was not covered under warranty. I agreed to pay the deductible for Asurion and asked if they could help me with that since I was out of town on business. They again couldn't help me saying that Asurion no longer allows in store claims unless its a medical emergency.

So after arguing with Verizon in the store and on the phone and Asurion, about how I pay more now for the monthly fee and the deductible and get less support, I still had to file a claim and have it delivered to my hotel and drive back after I had checked out to get it. PITA!
